Contan Liquors (next to Stop & Shop) has really upped their game recently...not a huge selection, but they are getting in much much better beer. I used to make more trips to Sav-Mor, but the prices on some stuff are so out of whack. I got dinged for ~$14.50 on a 6pk of Notch Zwickel at Sav-Mor.

I was thinking about that thread too when I posted. I think it was a light beer thread talking about beer prices or something.

FYI...Contan had Lunch for $7 this week, not sure if there's any left. And yes, very dumpy store. There's just random beers and boxes scattered all over the floor. There's almost no rhyme or reason to how it's "organized".

Good to know Contan has upped their game a bit. It's been a while since I've popped in. They were always at least much better organized and presented than Sav-Mor.

I wouldn't bother with either Contan or Sav-Mor.

Atlas is about a mile or mile and a half from Sav-Mor with W vastly superior selection and average pricing.

IM Gan in Cranston, RI had a clearance of old stock Thirsty Dog beers for $5.99, to my surprise this included not only the sessionable beers but also 4-packs of Siberian Night. Needless to say July turned into stout season.

It's not exactly the purpose of this thread but I didn't know where else to put this.

I saw a huge stack of Spencer's new (I assume) NE IPA at CBC Belmont over the weekend. I didn't pull the trigger because they're expensive and I didn't have great luck with a couple of their previous beers, but I'm curious if it's any good.

I know it's been the subject of some consternation on the main board, but I like the notion that a Trappist brewery will reflect the beer culture of where they're located rather than trying to recreate the lineups of the country where the first ones happened to be.

    Anyone try it?

Troegs Nimble Giant is back. Picked up a 4pk at Bacon's in Hudson. Great beer, one of the better DIPAs period. And I like the yearly format. It's not such a unique beer that it really warrants it, but with so much craft beer flooding the market, the fact it's once a year means I'll grab a 4pk or two whereas if it was always around I'd prob go more than a year between purchases and it would probably never be as fresh.

Loads of Lost Pine popping up. Grabbed a 4 of Tesselation. Seemed like and old school east coast. Loads of malt, little boozy as it warmed. Nothing about the hops popped. Didn't really enjoy it, which was a shame as I'd heard good things.

That’s surprising. I had Tesselation several months ago (12/9/17 post) and thought it was one of the best new (to me) beers of 2017. The Mosaic was very pronounced.

Surprising to me too. Had a can of Tesselation from the last drop a few weeks ago and thought it was quite good, very Mosaic-y.

I was excited about it, being a mosaic hopped beer. Love mosaic. Been all over Lizard king, OHTT Misaic and lost nation this year. But the maltiness seemed to overwhelm.

    How old was the can?

Their beers tend to fall off quickly. Oh-J lasted only a few weeks for me before starting to fall apart and lose its flavor.

That’s what happens with higher levels of O2 in the beer.

Was only a couple of weeks old, but sitting on the shelf

My cans of Oh-J were about three weeks old when they started to go south (not terribly so, but then by week 4 it became worse). A couple weeks old plus sitting on a warm shelf probably isn't good.

I'd give them a whirl again during the next drop, and try to get them fresher/refrigerated.

I realize you're not talking about Oh-J, but I believe I noticed it last week with a can of their Brightside IPA.

I'm actually heading up there today to try to grab some Bissell. Might swing by LP if I have time between that and the Children's Museum

Don't forget Goodfire is right there too. Might as well do both.

You can skip the Children's Museum, there's no beer there.

At the Chestnut Hill Wegmans, Sierra Nevada Fall Pack - $12.99. Also, 3rd visit in a row where I've found Springdale Good N' You? in the coolers and canned within the last 30 days ($14.99).
