Let me add some additional info: i was heading over from New Bern, mainly for the event and not so much of the scarcity (i know for a fact I will have it available to me at a local bottle shop). If it will be as readily available as you say it was/is this time around, then the prospects of trading $4$ for ORF seems less likely then. That idea was more about distro channels (see: availability) than about scarcity (see: rarity).

Truth. Several bottles were sitting on the shelf at Whole Foods-Durham for months last year.

-Yeah, I'm sure. They are all blending barrel aged beers, not blending, then barrel aging them. That news release seems innacurate, or an updated version with information about the past versions.

Did you not go back? Sam's had it for a while. Weeks at least IIRC.

then they received an additional later shipment.
I don't live in NC and we had driven down that weekend to get Event Horizon and Silent Night.

Last year I remember seeing at least a dozen Silent Night sitting on the shelf at TW cary a couple weeks after the brewery release if that is of any help.

Yup. The Park road Total Wine here had about a case for a good two months.

Not according to the email that Foothills sent out.

That makes it pretty obvious that it is blended, then barrel-aged.

-That's odd that they would send that out. Fact is, barrels of event horizon were sent to winston for this beer.

Well, now I'm really confused. As the email says, Olde Hickory contributed the wort from their signature imperial stout. I kind of assumed that meant their ... well, imperial stout, which is a 10.2% brew. Event Horizon, on the other hand, is only 8.5%, which means it can't be the same recipe as their imperial stout. Barrel aging won't DECREASE a beer's ABV by nearly 2%.

Something ain't working out quite right...

How much alcohol would you expect to evaporate during barrel aging?

    Dirty Bastard - 8.5%
    Backwoods Bastard - 10.2%

    Bruery Autumn Maple - 10%
Bruery Barrel Aged Autumn Maple - 13%

    Bruery Coton - 14%
    Bruery 100% BA Coton - 17.5%

I don't think that's quite how it works.

The beer is barrell aged, then blended. Then bottled... And that's the way the story goes.

-Just assume the email cut and pasted a description of the original ORF and hasn't been updated. That's the only thing I can figure. Although that might not even be true. Why would they send wort? That would open up all kinds of issues. Unless orignally they all brewed on the same day at Foothills or something.

-Event Horizon is not the same beer as their Imperial Stout. I love them both, but if I had to pick between them, I'd go Event Horizon hands down.

Do you work for one of the breweries or have other first-hand knowledge of this "fact"? I provided an excerpt from an official email from Foothills. You just say you know you are right. If I were a neutral observer, I know which looks like a stronger case.

Lets just say I know... Believe it or not it makes little difference to me. I do not work for any of the breweries, but I stay in the know.
