Cool that makes 5. I joined by myself so that takes us to needing only 598 more people to get to that 300 number.

OP: You're framing the question wrong. The question you should be asking isn't who paid $700 for Hoarders, but rather how many 2012 RS members paid an additional $50 for several limited bottles that won't be made available to RS in 2013. To bring it back to weatherdog's comment, it's plain to see that Hoarders is tailor made for pairs of former RS members: double allocations of RS beers, plus two bottles each of all the Hoarders-only releases.

Problem here is we don't really know for sure how many RS members were even invited to hoarders...

Thanks for pointing it out, I now see why my question was causing problems. Let me clear it up.

I could care less how many groups of two, three or 12 went in together. That means, I care a little bit, but not much. I don't care if it was set up for 2 people or whatever. You are probably right. I don't care if it is a good deal, it probably is, bad deal, whatever. I don't care what you get, why you get it, or how many bottles, etc. I don't care if it is smart or if it is stupid to join. I don't care if you agree with my opinion or you don't. My question is, "how many hoarders society memberships were sold?" I hope that clears it up and takes out all ambiguity. I guess my original wording was flawed. If the answer is no one knows thats ok. If someone wants to start the thread "virtues of paying an extra $50 dollars for two people to join hoarders" thats cool. I really wasn't looking for a debate or a critique of my question (though I do appreciate it as I see now why it was causing confusion), just a simple answer.

They specifically said they would not be releasing the # of Hoarders memberships sold.

I don't even know where to start with your post so I will just let it go. I am sorry that you were so bothered by my clearly horrible attempt at humor. Have a great Sunday.

I cannot wait until the FT: KH and BCBS posts come up for those 2/per Hoarders beers. Then the quotes will be 1200+ hoarders members, and since the beers were not technically for sale, they are de facto even on $4$.

The air will be redolent with crisp alpine air, softly rustling jimmies, will o wisp whispers of entitlement caressing the butthurt masses.

I am pretty sure only 400 invites went out for Hoarders. I am also pretty sure not everyone signed up. So i would put the figure at roughly 300. Its really just a SWAG though.

I don't think that the number is limited by the number of people willing to pay, but by how much beer is available. Each membership grants 1.5L of the limited bottles. That means that there are ~75 memberships available per barrel dedicated to these beers. You have to figure they're not only making one barrel, expect some losses, etc. My guess is that they have ~4 barrels per beer and have a margin of error of 50%, so there are ~150 memberships.

Of course, if Rue wanted it to be bigger or smaller, it'll be bigger or smaller. Maybe they're only doing 2 barrels and it's closer to 75, or 3 and it's ~100. No one knows but Bruery staff.

We could do a roll call... I personally know of at least three hoarders in Chicago.

If I was a RS member last year, I would have been a HS member next and all for me. That is if I was cool enough to get the invite.

I ended up splitting with someone. I was wanting to do RS this year, and didn't think paying th Extra 75 dollars was that big of a deal considering double allocations plus more rare beers.
