Happy New Omnipollo CANned Beer Sunday (Week 701)!

I recently got a query from a trader, asking about my backlog. The inquiry was justified, but just like any end-user, once I take custody, it is out of others' hands. I have made a signifiCANt dent in the backlog this summer & I will CANtinue to do so, but it is my CANcern & no one else's. C'est Le CANQuest (tm)!

I missed last week due to being at a supposedly fun thing that I'll never do again. I almost missed this week since I was attending RetroFest Weekend 2018, a celebration of antique and vintage automobiles, rockabilly, fashion & vendors galore. Bands played all day yesterday with one last one this afternoon & naturally, it was a group with whom I am friends, so I went back out after spending the night at my uncle's place, rather than going all of the way home. I met my uncle for lunch & then came home for a richly deserved nap.

Now, I am ready to drink, review & rate some beers, beginning with:

    CANtinuing to:

but that brings me to the end of my Omnipollo line. 8=( If I CANtinue, I will do a restart.

Yeah, I know . Plus I'm also sitting on a few others from other people, but I was kind of sick for a few weeks in July after returning from the DR, and want to enjoy these beers when I'm not so out of it. From what I've read on line, taking Nexium puts me at higher risk for those sort of travelers digestive issues; I think I'll just have to lay off the pills next time I leave the country. Can't hurt. Well, maybe it can, but ya know...:sunglasses:.

    Hell or high watermelon
    ..cloudy light amber
...medium body and around medium carbonation as well
..aroma is grain, wheat, watermelon, and watermelon rind
..taste is very similar to aroma, not too sweet. Watermelon is definitely in the forefront but the grain is also in the background to support the flavor.
..overall it was a decent watermelon beer that I would try again. It didn't taste artificial or like I was drinking liquid watermelon candy. Overall a very decent beer[IMG]

Love me some hydrangea. The customisability of their colour is always fun too.
That IS an interesting description...
I appreciate the out of focus dead plant and Mickeys looming in the background.
    But what IS it??!?

    New Beer Sunday: An IPA

Evenin’ NBSers with a report for IPA fans.

This evening’s new Beer is The Kind IPA from Three Heads Brewing up North there in Rochester, NY (also known to some as the home of Genny Cream Ale).

As usual my review, subject to revision until I finish this beer, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24355/64139/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors are pretty much what is expected from some IPAs these days, there’s citrus, resin and some tropical fruit. There’s also a touch of herbal character. The citrus seems to be both grapefruit and orange zest and both the sweetness and the bitterness are in a nice balance. Definitely a solid, reasonable choice even though it doesn’t really stand out from the pack of other solid, well made IPAs.

This evening’s music on the player involves going back to Bach for some piano music.

    Bach—Goldberg Variations

    Cheers, all!

Next year I'm going to plant a few more hydrangeas in the front and play with the colors a bit. That dead one went several weeks without water while we were on vacation. Hopefully it'll come back ok next year.

Excellent Vienna. Great head retention/lacing, crystal clarity. Aromas and flavors of big cracker, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, and light nutty/caramel malts; with some herbal, grassy, light peppery noble hops. Light herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Very bready/grainy malts and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light creaminess. Light-moderate increasing lingering bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth and pretty refreshing, 5.2%. Perfectly clean lagering, no fruity/yeasty notes. This is kind of leaning on the Dunkel side of things, but not overly sweet. Very clean and rich Vienna/Munich malt flavors, with nice earthy hop balance. Would buy again if they make it up to MI. It's only a matter of time(Inbev). Eliot Ness is still top dog. I need to revisit that review too, my terminology is totally wrong lol. Took me a while to understand lagers. 4

Excellent BSDA. Nice head retention/lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of big plum, peach, pear, golden raisin, apricot, orange, cherry, red apple, fruit skin/pits, and light banana/clove/peppery yeast; with moderate honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and light nutty/cocoa malts; with mild herbal/grassy hops and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/grassy bitterness, yeast spiciness; and slight fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Medium and medium-plus body; very creamy/bready malts and light sticky hops/yeast in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter/spicy dryness, no cloying sweetness. Zero warming 9.2%, dangerously smooth. Perfectly balanced fruity/spicy yeast, plums, and dark/bready malts. Cocoa nibs are hardly there at all, were not even needed anyways. Spot on style example. 4

Greetings from a slightly less humid SEMass. Ironically, the only internet capable device that is currently functioning is my iPad. Kind of a lazy weekend here. We mostly hung around the house, light yard work. Half the day yesterday in the spa with the grandson. Did oil change the motorcycle...

So while my phone has been sitting trying to upload a picture for half an hour, lets just get on with this beer thing, shall we?

In my Tank 7 glass is a vigorously poured Springdale Barrel Room No Fuzz. It is a sour lager aged on nectarines. The appearance us quite clear and golden with an ample but fragile head of white foam that falls quickly. The aroma promises sweetness, mild sour, and plenty of unfuzzy peach nectarine flavor. A slight grassy topnote. This beer delivers big flavors. Slightly sweet opening, with a suprisingly fizzy kick. What follows is bright, tart, and intense nectarine flavor. The flavor is intense. The sour builds slightly, but the nectarine is the rock star here. Strong, clean, clearly identifiable. The beer identity is not lost as there is more than sufficient malt to provide balance.

The feel...it is super fizzy on the sip, but seems almost still after the sipping. So it is bubbly, but not obnoxiously bubbly. It seems champagne-like, I think. The body is light to medium, the after taste lingers long and is very pleasant as the nectarine fades.

Diggin' this one, folks. Recommended, but if peachiness ain't your thing it won't be for you. North of 4.0 for sure. How far...hmmmm...thinking on it.

As far as the topic from the much appreciated opening post, I have an embarrassing amount of beer backlogged in my house. Let's not talk about it...I hang my head in shame...

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Another day done with work. Getting ready for the county fair this week, and it's been a lot of work to get our booth ready to go, and get supplies for it ready to go. I know I'll be totally spent at the end of it.

But enough about work, on to the beer.

    Stone Woot Stout.

First off, I love a big beer in a 12 oz bottle. It makes it so much easier to approach than in a 22 oz, or 750. I'll be honest that I haven't tried this beer before for that reason. I so wish that bigger beers would come in this size more often.

Now to my thoughts about this beer. Yes, I do like it. It is a very thick beer. It pours thick and feels thick. It is quite tasty, at 63 F (which is the temp I measured in the glass). Just an all around fun beer to drink.

This beer is a thick pouring beer that pours pitch black, with a 1 finger tan head. The retention is ok, but not the greatest. No lacing on the glass.
The nose is actually quite mellow. There's some chocolate and vanilla, but quite subdued.
Taste - It's a lot more than the nose. There's deep and rich notes of caramel, and chocolate. The barrel effect then kicks in and doesn't let go. It really has a rye finish to it.
This is one hell of a thick beer. This beer really coats my throat all the way down and doesn't let go. There's the heat from the alcohol that mixes in with the thickness.
Damn delicious beer, and I'm glad they did it in the 12 oz format. I'd rather drink this size than the 22 oz size. It's just right.

I may have another beer, but I'm not sure yet. We'll see after I enjoy my dinner.

Hey, all. I’ve got a new one today that I picked up during a trip to Pittsburgh over the weekend. We visited 4 breweries yesterday, and this one was picked up at our final stop.

Hitchhiker Triple Shakes, an Imperial Coffee Porter-

This one is pitch black, and has an incredibly silky, creamy and full mouthfeel with low carbonation. The flavor and nose are dominated by espresso-like coffee notes and slightly sweet milk chocolate. There’s also some roasty char that lends a little bitterness in the flavor to balance things. Overall, this is one of the better coffee beers I’ve had. Although not too sweet, this would make a good dessert beer.

    Son of a .... Peach????

Yeah, that is my next beer.

And it is a strange beer. I am not too much of a fan of it. I do like the peach part, but there's an off putting flavor that goes along with it, that I'm not a fan of.

This beer pours a golden color, with a minimal short lasting white head.
The nose is really peach smelling. Really not much else beyond that. The peach aroma is quite rich smelling.
Taste - I get the peach, but it also has a strange flavor that I really don't quite get. Quite hard to describe. It isn't the best flavor.
The body is moderate, and that strange flavor does stick in my throat.
This is a strange and bizarre beer. Not a big fan of it.

2nd new beer, this time an IPA from a local brewery known for their outstanding lagers. The beer is Stoudt’s Gearshifter IPA-

Appearance is slightly cloudy orange gold with an orange-hued billowing head and tons of lacing. Nose and taste feature tropical and citrus fruit hop notes, along with a little bready malt in the taste. Feel is medium-bodied with low carb, making it kind of watery. Overall, it’s a decent IPA, and I’d have more, but it probably won’t make Stoudt’s well known for IPAs anytime soon.
