Paulaner sells their Wies'n Festbier in 6-pack and 12-pack 11.2 ounce bottles too.

Would be cool to see that can sold separately from the glassware as well for repeat purchases.

Every year I tell myself I'm going to wait until September to drink Oktoberfestbier and then Sierra Nevada's comes out in early August and my plan completely goes to shit.

It's one of my favorite styles so I have no issues drinking them any time of year, but I find myself enjoying them most once summer is over and those temps start to drop a bit.

I don't get the whole seasonal creep deal here in Alabama. For example, SA Octoberfest doesn't come out until Aug 1 year in and year out and has been that way as far as I can remember. I think there have been random stores that went ahead and stocked it the last few days of July due to running out of Summer Ale, but it doesn't get earlier and earlier for us. It stays the same.

I agree with your comment--at 5 to 6% ABV these beers are basically session beers by today's ABV standards. Always happy to see a well made Fest style beer available.

While I agree, I'm also always happy to see well made Oktoberfest beers, I don't agree that these are necessarily session beers.

Just because today's ABV standards have changed, doesn't mean the way our liver processes alcohol has changed.

Session to me is still AT LEAST 5% or less, and really more like 4%. And by definition 4% or less.

Unless you're actually sitting at one of the tents in Munich this September. Then all bets are off.

Paulaner's did it to me. The second day I visited I only had two liters outside at the Hofbrau tent, and enjoyed the sites inside the tent afterwards...Hofbrau's a crazy tent.

And Paulaner's probably had less to do with the ABV, and more to do with me having 7 liters and THEN going out for the night in downtown Munich drinking.

Needless to say, I felt like hell the next day.

Seems to me I've seen single cans for sale, but I can't tell you if it was the retailer's doing by separating the pre-packaged can and mug. Maybe some retailers have heard the same complaint about "not needing another liter mug."

I'm strongly considering trying to find a 1/6-bbl of SN's Oktoberfest if it's as good as I expect it to be, versus bottles this year.

For what this is worth to everyone, Süddeutsche Zeitung published a rundown of all the Festbier at the Okto'fest last year (I imagine not much has changed). Have a look, the important facts are easy to translate, or you can use Google Translate (but it looks like you have to do one page at a time).

    The headline roughly reads:
The flavors of the six Wiesn beers
One wants to unite all of Bavaria, another sees itself as an "alpha beer". This is what awaits the visitors at the Oktoberfest 2017.

I distinctly remember that link (probably from the Germany forum), because of the horrendous pour in the initial picture. Real easy to "session" an Oktoberfest if it's only a half liter.

Hah -- probably wouldn't have passed at the tents -- amateur tapper.

Check the others -- not much better. But IIRC, the less ugly pours will settle out.

Instead of releasing October beers in July, why can't they keep brewing spring/summer beers in July and August?

Yep, they're shut down. It's a shame. They searched for a buyer for over a year, but there were no takers in the end. I'm really going to miss their peanut butter porter.

I was just thinking, I could really go for a Sam Adams Octoberfest. I do appreciate the maltiness of it.

A few more sighted to add to the 2018 list: Spaten Ür Märzen, bottled in May; Goose Island Oktoberfest, also bottled in May; and Weihenstephaner Festbier, which (if translated correctly) looks to have been bottled in June.

Funny that the Weihenstephaner beat the Sierra Nevada to shelves.

Argonaut in Denver has Ayinger Marzen kegs this year and I am planning to do just that.

I'm not obsessive enough to keep a calendar of when certain Oktoberfests appear. I do, however, concretely remember bringing the SN/Mahr's Oktoberfest with me on a Michigan camping trip in mid-July a couple of years back. SN is definitely putting this one out later this year.

I've always assumed Spaten uses a best before date of one year for all of their beers, so anything bottled in May 2018 would say "05.2019" on the bottle. Is that correct?
