The difference I noticed that caused my suspicion is in how the alcohol affects me (i.e., degree of tipsiness), not based on the taste. I guess taste could be having a sort of placebo effect, though, because the comparison beers I mentioned have an obviously boozier flavor.

Good point. Whatever liquor makes its way from the barrel into the final product may be hitting me differently than just straight beer.

Well when you drainpour half of it, you might not feel the 15%

Without having to read through all the post history, I will be down in NOVA this week and was hoping to visit Aslin. I noticed their FAQ page still says no taproom. Supposedly they closed it due to zoning issues and demand far exceeding supply. Perhaps the site hasn't been updated yet? Is the taproom back up and running yet? If not, when is it expected to reopen?

Also, what are typical wait times like for releases? I'm not much of a line culture guy. Do lines move quickly? Or do you have to arrive super early and wait for hours? Also, do they do wristbands, etc? What days are typically easiest for releases?

I also don't have fomo, so if I just want to stop by and grab whatever cans are available, do cans typically last into the weekend? Or do they mostly sell out Thursdays? Also looks like crowlers are another option - how many different options do they usually have available?

TLDR - Would prefer to enjoy taproom. If not an option, when is the best time to just roll in/roll out and grab whatever cans have lasted? Same goes for crowlers - how many options are usually available?

Thanks and cheers and happy 4th!

No taproom whatsoever and the date is pretty much anywhere from 6 months to a year plus out. With even that estimate being highly open to change/extension. The closest thing is the Aslin "beer garden" by Nationals park. It's just cans (no draft) for on-site consumption.

Cans are always available from the Herndon location due to high production quantity. There's no need to wait at all due to their level of production. The only time there would be a line is at opening or if they're doing a hyped stout.

If all you want are cans of Aslin quickly then go at night (after 7) to avoid traffic and buy your cans easily. There should be multiple (5-8) options of cans available to go. New release days are typically Thu/Sat so those days would likely increase can options. Best info source in Instagram.

b-mc-g's answer is spot-on (and should probably be in the first post in this thread given how often we get these same questions). Only thing I would add is that you shouldn't rely on Aslin's website for any information. It's so woefully out-of-date that even the hours posted there are wrong.

Best bet for info is to follow them on facebook or instagram. They usually update several times a week, listing what's on sale that day, and have even began adding case counts. Will inform on up coming releases, as well.

    Thanks @b-mc-g and @lazyjc22

Couldn't be better recommendations! Showed up about half hour before closing on the 4th. No line. Got to speak to the employee a few minutes and walked out with All the Wrong Moves, Johann the Mango Thief, Predictable Patterns, and Laser Raptors.

Next time I'm in town hoping to have one of their stouts or goses!

Anyone hear any taproom updates? Probably a stupid question, like asking if anyone has seen any unicorns lately....

Worth what? I thoroughly enjoyed it, but the general reaction among the local Aslin fans (for both Glamping and Bale) has made clear to me that others love peanut butter stouts way more than I do. I liked Sprechen Sie Deutsch and Genius Kitchen more than either of the PB stouts, but I appear to be in the minority on that.

Belly Shirts took the Gold for me, so far. And I've had most though not all of them.

I finally managed to score a can of Belly Shirts in a trade and am very much looking forward to trying it.

File it under things that won't change, but it'd be nice to double, or even triple, some of these stout runs given the demand. Could easily be done instead of the three starfish beers back to back to back or something of the like.

Others have probably heard this, but I’m hearing mug club will be invited to the new spot August 1st. Obviously no idea when it’ll open for the rest of us plebs, but at least there’s some news that suggests it’s in functioning shape.

Where is the 'new spot' you are referring to? I don't think the downtown Herndon location will be opening anytime soon, no progress in quite a few months on that location.

I’m not mug club so I’m not sure. I suspect it is because the anniversary is being held at the same place it was last year.

I haven’t been by the downtown Herndon location since last year’s anniversary. Is there still nothing there or is the building adjacent to the lot completely empty?

They started to do some work to the building (former dry cleaners), took off the roof, rear wall and one side, the other side is shared with another business. So it's currently a storefront which is covered up with plywood and has a massive hole in the ground (I assume to access utility lines), been that way for at least 3 months.

I believe they also own the building next to that but from what I can tell, they haven't done anything there but I do think they do store some barrels in that building. Maybe they changed plans and are going to use this building for the taproom rather than the old cleaners?

Alright, apparently my source was confused. New place is supposed to be in Alexandria. No idea on the timeline.

    T
There should be a flow chart for the taproom. Options of Herndon Alexandria or elsewhere. Could throw in some Fairfax County board meetings and some VA regulations/laws but no matter what the end bubble would have to be “six months from now!”

I’m going to Annandale VA tomorrow. Other than Aslin and Ocelot anything worth checking out? Any decent bars that have a good selection of beers?
