meh, for the most part, but I'm more able to detect the differences in the IPAs, where as I literally can't taste any difference between HOTS, SS, MOC or Impermanence other than the fact that the latter two have maple.

The human condition has barely moved an inch since we were trying to draw on caves to communicate.

Every short-sited person since we could speak has proclaimed "people are worse now!" No, you have just grown more curmudgeonly.

@Squire is 100% correct. People are people, as the great philosopher "Depeche Mode" once sang.

My controversial opinion after going through a bunch of replies on this thread and others is there is no condition so wonderful that some asshole won't complain about it.

I won't argue that - despite my form belief that life on this Earth was better 20 years before the revolution.

Cascade the brewery, not Cascade the delicious hop.

Those folks, however, are unlikely to be on this site. Thusly, their idiotic opinion is irrelevant to us.

This probably isn't even a controversial opinion, but nitro really sucks. The more I try nitro beers the more I hate it. It can reduce a flavorful and complex beer to a bland and watery mess. I still enjoy Guinness on occasion, but maybe only out of pure nostalgia. Nitro is terrible.

It is regarded as the work of the devil here. It dumbs down beer with a vengeance.
Tragically it was invented to emulate cask beer without the drawbacks. But whereas casking beer enhances flavour, nitro smothers it. Even keg beer is better than nitro and that in itself is lamentable.

Ehh . . . nitro's OK. It just shouldn't be as popular as it is, IMO. A nitro beer once in a while is nice, but everyone putting Old Rasputin on nitro is just a dumb. Nitro pounders are a good time, as well.

I also feel like Nitro ruins most beers. Guiness is ok, I had a pumpkin pie beer that was ok, but I never had it without nitro. Everything else has just seemed like it had better body and taste without. Creamy doesn't do it for me unless it's supposed to be like that (guiness)

I bet you never had Guinness before it went nitro. Up till relatively recently bottled Guinness was bottle conditioned. When the nitro version was introduced it was featured on the BBC Food and Drink programme and tested by Jilly Goulden and Oz Clarke, two people with remarkable palates. Their verdict was "This is simply not good enough to carry the Guinness label."

I like some beers on Nitro. I like the body and texture it brings.

It does, though. Maybe you don't like the flavor, but every time I have had a cask alongside a force-carbed version of the same beer, the cask is always more flavorful, even after letting the force-carbed one warm.

I probably tried it before the change, but wasn't into beer enough to notice the difference. I believe you though, going to nitro doesn't seem like a good idea for almost any beer.

While we're doing controversy here, I'm curious about your thoughts on 'sparklers'. When i visited Scottland years and years ago I enjoyed the creamy, thick head the beers had and was vaguely confused when I went to my first NERAX festival and found the beers weren't served like that. That's when I learned about the England/Scottland divide on that front.

My personal guess is that you are decidedly not a fan

Didn't read all 70+ pages of the thread, not sure if anybody mentioned...

Marzens (oktoberfests)! I've had so many offerings and just cannot enjoy them. I get it, but do not enjoy it.

    Same for pilsners. Sorry!

I respect both styles and what goes into making them, but my mouth just disagrees :slight_frown:
