I prefer their single IPAs(but prefer lower abv stuff in general), if you ever make it to their brewpub or taproom you'll get some nice hits they don't can. That being said it seems everyone in this forum prefers the DIPAs.

Dungeons for sure if you see it. But that's not too common of a beer. Vallejo (which you should see now) and Navaja (currently retired for the season) are also excellent IMO. Enjoy HA! They make delicious beer.

Have seen both Dungeons and Vallejo all over town, but not Navaja. Thanks for the tip!

I saw Dungeons and Deep Space (along with all the other usual suspects) in several places in Denver and Frisco when I was out in CO last week.

I see what you’re saying. Some of their beers can be quite tasty but are prone to alcohol burn (Yeah Navaja, I’m looking at you). Others can become too malt forward though not all do.

Exactly. I don't seem to pick that up in their apa's and IPA's, but have in the dipa's. Still good of course, but a bit more malt forward and boozy than I would prefer.

But I intend to keep on conducting ongoing research. :sunglasses:

For what you’ll see available to you in Portland, I totally agree. I think they excel at “dry” offerings - Tuna especially- and when the grain bill increases the beer above 8% ABV, they don’t shine as much, and can get kind of syrupy. There are definite exceptions - I love galactic double daisy - and that’s especially true with some of the local stuff.

However, I don’t believe that to be the case with a Navaja. It’s one of my favorite Double IPAs, and dangerously drinkable. It’s rotates shelves with Deep Space - each is produced for 6 months out of the year. When it returns, I would definitely recommend grabbing it. Deep Space is one of my least favorite beers from HA, so when Navaja comes back, it’s very welcome.

Half Acre is a brewery that would thrive in any landscape. They make good beer at nearly ever turn, in nearly every style.

My core favorites are Vallejo and Gone Away. Those are both IPAs that HA produce for half a year.

I’m happy to see you say HA sis sending some other one offs out to Seattle. Well, happy for you, it disappears to quickly here in stores with knowledgeable customers.

A beer like dungeons is a treat. Most special one off or yearly releases from them are worth the money. Buy them early, store cold and enjoy.

Also, if you are visiting Chicago, they do a ton of stuff that never leaves their brewery. Hoppy and American wild ale. And they are usually stellar

It looks like they were doing a mini “tour” out west and made drops at each stop. We got a good amount of cans and kegs in Denver. Ended up getting a 4 pack of BHA. From what I saw we got BHA, Dungeons, Vallejo, Deep Space, Daisy Cutter, Pony, Tuna and maybe 1 more that I’m forgetting. I’m hoping they do these random drops a couple times a year. I can always use some HA in my life.

Here in the wastelands south of Denver (I kid, sorta)...we only got Tuna, Cutter, Vallejo and Deep S. Didn't see the BHA or the Dungeons (womp womp). Bummer. Be great to get a few more drops per year but I'm not holding my breath. For selfish must-go-to-Chicago reasons, I hope they actually don't start distributing widely, because I want to HAVE to go to Chicago to get my fave (Space IPA). A week away from enjoying my favorite brewery and taproom, once again. My hajj cometh.

Oh, and to @John_M - generically, I agree that the stuff below 7.5% is their strong suit, but I would say Navaja > Deep Space as I think the Navaja balances the booziness a bit better than the Deep. The only thing more dangerous I've had there is Johnny's One Ton (11-12%?). If you're feeling particularly stupid in Chicago, I recommend dropping a 5 oz sample of One Ton into a pint glass (once lowered a bit) of Space. Good times will ensue.

Any guesses on pricing for Gossamer? It used to sit on shelves at the same price as daisy cutter. I wonder if they're going to put it at 12.99 like most of their other low-abv, straight-forward one-offs, or price it where it used to be when it was a year-round offering. I hope it's under 10.99

Speaking of pricing on the low-ABV one-offs, why are they so high? I liked Fader quite a bit, but it was like $15 a four-pack, which is ludicrous.

I thought it was 12.99, but i could be wrong. regardless, a high price, imo, but i still purchased a 4-pk. lifecycle, which is a similar base beer as gossamer, was 15.99, but it had some fruit additions.

I agree on Navaja (I think it should still be year-round, and Deep Space can either be a special release or kick rocks), but I also think Navaja is dangerous as hell. That's probably the easiest-drinking 10% beer I've had.
    Uh, because it's delicious? Duh.

Was Fader $15, though? I thought it was a buck or two cheaper, but maybe I'm misremembering.

Thanks for correcting. I couldn't remember exactly. I still think that is quite high, tasty though it may be.

Thanks, that was what I remembered. Still not cheap, but $15 would've definitely given me some hesitation (I bought another 4-pack after blowing through the first).

It is high. I don't mind paying a premium, sometimes a significant premium, for craft IPAs because for me there is a huge difference in quality, but for pilsners I just can't. Whenever I need to scratch that pilsner itch Pilsner Urquell at $6 for a four pack of 16oz. cans is my go to.
