Wednesday I think is a safer bet for cans. Smog is definitely worth the visit. So is Phantom Carriage.

So is Beachwood. It's on the way down. Sort of. Not really. But do it anyway.

ill second phantom carriage and beachwood. Amazing spots. Having visited Smog a couple of times I dont personally plan to be back. If I was a local its the type of place I might frequent, but as an occasional visitor I havent ever been impressed by their beer enough for it to warrant spending any time at. Seems average to me but has easy parking, nice staff, big open space

Phantom Carriage's beers are pretty mediocre but their place is awesome. I wish Monkish's beers and Phantom Carriage's location were combined.

Also, I don't understand people who are just visiting wanting to stand in line for hours for beer when you could spend that time doing literally anything else. I don't even wait in lines and I live here.

I get you on the lines. Try to avoid them for the most part. But Monkish is one I’d do it for. Last year got there at 3:45 on a Wednesday just to get growlers. Was happily surprised to hear about the can release. Was drinking by 4:30. Line moved quickly. Plus it makes my son and our beer buddies happy to come home with some and share.

Can travel better than growlers, stand in the line man. I and many other locals wait in line for it. I happen to think it’s worth every minute/hour. If I have the time. #noshame

I would have paid a kings ransom to see the look on the lot lizards today when they posted Really Real at 2:30 on the tap menu when that was actually what it was, tap only. How many scurried into line or jumped into their cars ?

    Cheers,

There are very good chances Monkish will have a can release tomorrow. Maybe you will get lucky and it will be a double one. Just hope it is not one of their triple IPAs, because those are over the top in a bad way.

I second Phantom Carriage. I personally am not a huge fan of Beachwood or Smog City. Both make very good beer, but nothing that you haven't had a better version of elsewhere. I find them a bit boring. Smog City makes very good barleywines and barrel aged stouts. Beachwood makes very good West Coast IPAs and Lambic-inspired sours. But they are good all round. Bottle Logic has arguably the best stouts in the area if that's your thing, though I overall don't care for them or their location. El Segundo is a kind of good old school West Coast brewery, with damn solid and aggressive WC IPAs.

Phantom Carriage has serious problems with carbonation and balance. Their beers are often too sour, or bad funky. But their barrel aged versions of broadacres are generally fantastic, particularly their berry variants. The bar itself is awesome.

If you will make your way into mainland LA, I think Highland Park is worth a visit for sure.

The lot lizards aren't following the menu online, they're putting they're ears to the ground and listening for the canning machine powering on.

I have a client right next door to Monkish, Total Corporate Solutions, who we are doing a couple projects with currently. I have been in meetings there at a variety of hours over the last 6 months, some morning some afternoon. When I have an afternoon meeting it really is amazing how many people I see loitering around, whether smoking dope in cars, walking from the front to the back looking for any sign of can life. I have seen them trying to peer into the windows and put their ears to the sliding doors, no joke. Most are zombied down to their smart phones as well, it's a very strange culture.

Oh, I would probably bet a good sum of $$$$ that there will be a can release today for all you who have posted who are visiting from out of state, today is as good a chance as there is, most likely a DIPA, and perhaps a double can release too. Henry has been prolific lately.

    Cheers,

Have you noticed a decrease in the number of people doing this over the past six months?

I would actually say there's more people now waiting around for a release than ever before. Have a friend that lives close that told me there's usually 40-50 people waiting outside every day of the week around 2pm. Always the same people too, "haze vatos" my buddy calls them.

Pretty late announcement today. I'd bet the "pre-lineup" was over 50 people.

Was actually able to make it over for the release today. GGG is one of my favorites from them, so this was a great surprise. Really not a fan of the folks in these Monkish lines though. God damn, do they suck. Some of the most shameless people in this community.

Monkish or HazeBro nation? Because I'm pretty sure he was referencing the second.

It would be funny though to have a live feed of the line status after they announce. Obviously can't have it on all the time as people would just monitor that instead to hypothesize releases.

As an admitted Nelson ***** I am really excited to try Prehistoric B-Boy soon. I'm also very excited to hear about the 1st Monkish beer dinner " Convivum " with Broad Street Oyster Co. Looks like an amazing night, and @ $ 75 for Sea Urchin, Lobster, Oysters, Geoduck and more along with Monkish beers is a steal. Hell I can eat a $100 worth of Urchin on a typical sushi night easily.

    Cheers,

This is so accurate. I didn't even think about it until you posted. Of the dozen or so releases I've attended I hear the same thing... "Just saw that drop and ditched <insert: work, prior engagements, birth of first born, etc.>". I always keep to myself but the conversations I overhear are 50/50 hilarious or irrationally irritating.
