I will be cutting across from Charles City to I-35 in about a week and was wondering if any of these breweries are noteworthy or if I'm missing any. Not real up to speed on the Iowa craft beer scene other than the obvious one.

    Mason City Brewing
    Fat Hill Brewing
    Limestone Brewers
    Lake Time Brewing
    Worth Brewing

Thanks for any help and/or impressions of these places.

Lake Time is my favorite of that bunch. Some decent porters.

    Never heard of Limestone.

Fat Hill is great... I get to Mason about once a month, but they have some great brews... Had a great black lime saison this spring , but that's probably gone... I'll be there this weekend, I'll update on Saturday or Sunday

Hey Zap, it's been a couple years since I was there, but I made a stop at Worth Brewing & it was great. I'm a big fan of British milds & Worth did one that was outstanding. Northwood is a nice pleasant small town w/ a very good pizza place close to the brewery.

I see from their website they are on draft at The Pub in Charles City. If that's where you're staying you should be able to try their beer if you can't get to Northwood.

I would highly recommend making a stop at Worth for a beer & pizza. Enjoy your travel/stops.
    Cheers!

Zap, I didn't get the edit done in time, but if you happen to be near Spillsville IA, there is a small museum dedicated to the work of two brothers that carved wooden clocks back in the early 1900's. The clocks are absolutely amazing. Henry Ford offered them 1 million dollars for one clock, but they wouldn't sell. True craftsmen! Check it out if you have time, well worth the tour!

Thanks for the thoughts. Is that pizza right at the brewery or a different place and if it is different would you happen to know the name.

We're actually staying in Rochester for a few days then coming down to play at those grass tennis courts in St. Charles for an afternoon, then heading back to the Twin Cities from there via 35 so it would work out stopping at Worth.

The pizza was delivered from near by, but I don't recall the name. I didn't realize that Worth had moved into a different building(s). When I visited they were in the former bank building, but now it looks like they are at a different location, (still downtown). Looks like I need to make a trip south to check out the new site!

Grass courts? Interesting, not very common in these parts!

Wow, sorta like Field of Dreams..."If you build it, they will come". Looks awesome!

Please report back on your trip. I would like to hear an update report on Worth & also the other breweries you are able to visit. I might have to plan another trip through Iowa. Cheers!

Unfortunately plans just changed as we have a funeral on Friday that will keep us from making this trip. Maybe next summer.

It has been a few years since my visit to Worth, but if they have kept up with the quality, definitely Worth a visit. Not too far off the Interstate.
