Don't get me wrong, i love Binny's and all, but i'm new to the area and i just found out that bourbon county coffee is all spoken for already, in advance of its release...I imagine that this might be a regular occurrence for such a big well known store.

So, im just curious, if anyone knows any top notch yet slightly under the radar beer stores, the closer to downtown the better for me, though anything near the train is doable.

    thanks!

Since last year when they renamed the beer "Bourbon County Truck-Chaser Stout".

    Support the local bottle shops.

For the same reason we support our local craft brewers.

I live close to many Binny's, I never have and never will even go in one.

Interesting. You're explaining to Vav what he has to sell at his store?

Yeah because we all know binnys is run by and employed by soulless robots, swimming in their bcbcs

I saw Vav park his Aston Marton in the back, the license plate read "NO FFF 4 U". True Story.

Outside of one in Bloomington and 1 in Champaign they are all in the Chicagoland area. Isn't that local enough? if you went in to one you'd realize the people there know more about craft beer than your local hole in the wall 95% of the time

I know there is a list (maybe full, I'm not sure) for Binny's Grand, most other small stores said they have no idea. Also, SL Binny's might have it in soon, but they did not say it was spoken for.

    Truth.

I enjoy shooting the shit with my local Binny's beer guys. They may be a "big box", but you can't say they aren't local. Best part, nothing is ever marked up. I appreciate that.

says the dude in the beer department at binny's grand. i guess that doesnt mean that no other binnys will have it. I was not trying to say anything bad about the place either. i was disappointed to hear it was all gone but odds are that i would not have been able to go there at the exact minute that the truck was unloaded, so, i would have missed it anyway. i'll often take a waiting list over an unruly mob. i guess i was looking for a place where this beer might actually sit on the shelves for a day or more...if that is even possible, LOL.

That's up to individual stores. Mine doesn't do a list.

Also, it won't hit the shelves. You'll have to ask for it.

So those of you defending Binny's....

You would rather have a a handful of Binnýs around the Chicagoland(or anywhere) as opposed to MANY more mom and pop LOCAL bottle shops????

I guarantee if you think about it for a minute you would say no.

Why would you rather have a large percentage of the small distribution beer(anything from FBS to CBS to KH) go to a handful of BIG BOX stores like Binnys only to get sold to either inside connections or a few people who buy the whole allotment??? Or a bunch of people in a just a few hours, not letting the rest of the population have a chance at it even a few weeks after a release.

WHY O WHY would you NOT want ALL, every last bit of anything evenly remotely limited, to go to small, independent mom and pop bottle shops??
Ill gladly pay a few extra bucks to know my money is staying local(99% of the time) and to have the OPPORTUNITY to drive around like a crazy person to 7 or 8 different bottle shops(some of which only the VERY LOCAL beer nerds know about) to FIND A TREASURE I've wanted and looked for....
As opposed to, knowing damn near all the limited beer went to a couple Binny's, who sold out in a couple hours.
I think half the fun of buying craft beer is finding it, lemme search high and low for bottle shops, as opposed to Binnys smacking me in the face with advertisements, only to sell out in a couple hours.

You guys are insane if you would rather have our craft beer go to places like Binnys.

How would we ever find old WHALES just sitting on shelves in old corner bottle shops if all our limited beer starts going to places like Binny's..

Binnys is in business to make money, not support us BA's or craft beer...I dont know about you, but at least two of my local bottle shops are in business to help move quality craft beer. They make little to no money, and have inventory that would crush any Binnys anywhere, because they're willing to keep product around for those who want it, not have immature "BLOWOUT SALES".

Ya binnys doesn't support BA's or craft beer...... Now I look forward to seeing everyone in the parking lot on Black Friday at binnys for a celebration of making money and being non-supportive.

Well, each to their own. I whole-heartily disagree with the majority of what you said. Now, my opinion comes from suburban living, not city living which I think might matter here.

I'll just discuss the BCBS roll-out. So Binny's was mostly forthcoming with information about the release if you weren't a douche about it. They also charged 21.99 for a 4 pack at *most* of them, which I believe is the suggested retail. ALL BUSINESS IS TRYING TO MAKE MONEY! I'd say Binny's prices are quite fair. A few even held a 4 pack if you called them. Others did first come first serve, which is fair. ALL businesses would be foolish to not hold a small quantity in back just in case (I have a good story about that and the Parabola launch, but that's for another time). It's fair for the public, but ANY good retail manager will make sure their best customers.. the ones who spend 50 bucks plus PER WEEK are also taken care of. Those are the regular clients who also buy the product that doesn't move as fast, not just those looking to purchase the hot product and never been seen again. Also, about price, here were the non-binny prices in my area. 20.49, 21.99, 23.99, 25.99, 25.99, 29.99, 7 a bottle. Gee, did I find binny's price to be outrageous?

As far as WHALES on shelves go, if Binny's got a smaller amount the same truck chasers would instead mob your "mom and pop" shops to grab the whale and leave. That's going to happen no matter where the beers go to.

On the subject of the "money staying local", Binny's is based out of Skokie, IL. Is that not local? I'm confused...

I also feel you need a major lesson in economics, I don't think you understand the point of opening a business with goods for sale.

Wait, are you seriously trying to convince me there are businesses whose purpose is NOT to make money?:astonished:

If half the fun of craft beer for you is driving around looking for it, you must be pretty new to craft beer. It's OK, really, as it's simply one of the stages one passes through in their craft beer career. After a little while you will soon tire of this and finally realize, IT'S JUST BEER.

The Binny's I regularly frequent all handle special releases in as fair a manner as they can handle to help ensure as much beer is spread around as possible. They also don't wait to see how much more money you're going to spend before they will go in back to see if they have something for which you've asked.
