    1. Riip is solid, especially with the view/patio. Can get a little heavy on the surf bros depending on weather/time of day.
    2. Every beer on tap at the Beachwoods can be served as a half pour, for typically 50% of the cost (and maybe $.25 extra). Interesting note, 16oz is full pour for IPA, but half pour is a 10oz pour, so you can do the math on efficiency. Unsure where you're coming from, but I'd say that HB & SB are much more mellow (unless it's a food/event night in SB) than LB.
    3. I'd go Green Cheek over Noble personally, larger seating and probably better beer. New tables & benches mean you can probably do some board games (unsure if they have some in house).
    4. I mean there's a myriad of brewpubs and craft food spots. I haven't been to American Dream, but Brix in Sunset is great food (taplist hit or miss), Brew Kitchen Ale House in Los Alamitos (tends to be more IPA focused than sour/dark beer), BT's BBQ in Huntington Beach, Tustin Brewing Co, Haven Gastropub in Orange, Alza Osteria in Brea, etc.

    -edit-
Also if you're looking for specific local beers, set up an IP trade.

TFTI, could’ve sworn I had looked on Untappd (and every other app) and not been able to find it. Someone had said it’s because they go through so much beer, but looks like I/he may have been mistaken.

Might as well check out Ballast Point on the Seal Beach / Long Beach border. Worth it for the views. But don't skip on Beachwood SB. Since you'll be spending a lot of time at Riip, there are a lot of great food options in the same lot: Super Mex, Tsunami, Secret Spot. You can get take out and eat the food at riip. Some other food recs in the area: Red Table, Taco Surf, Fish Camp (free corkage), Buon Gusto (free corkage). I also second the Pacific City recommendation, fun place to explore.

It’s 8-3. Did you make it over to RiiP yet? Pick up the latest #BeerPaper there. Front page and a great read on RiiP’s latest head brewer Ian McCall is featured. If your there this afternoon I may be able to squeeze in there for a few before heading over to BWHB.

Got a question for all the RiiP patrons (& lactose intolerance patrons). I’m a local also, but this really don’t concern me. At least not yet.
A good friend (local to RiiP) was there last night. Had Sunset Gold. He had a lactose reaction after he got home. Was in pain most of the evening. I don’t drink saisons. Do saisons have lactose? If the Sunset Gold has lactose should RiiP let their patrons know that it and all their other beers served there has lactose in it? I know my other local brewery BWHB does let everybody know that some of their beers have lactose in them.

David, some brewers do use lactose in their Saisons' though I cannot comment on Ians recipe, only he could tell you that. Perhaps your friend ate something unknowingly that dairy was in it ? I know the frustration being lactose intolerant myself.

    Cheers,

    Wait they made a saison?

I know they had put a stout into barrels a long time ago, but beyond that I thought everything was just hoppy or maybe light stout.

Yes he is pretty careful on what he eats. From some of the descriptions he’s told me I would think he is very careful on food with lactose. I know he is careful on the beer he chooses. At BWHB it’s posted if lactose is used. I never think about it as I’m not lactose intolerant yet. At least I don’t think I am. I guess a lot of brewery’s do announce which of their beers have lactose in them.

I spoke with Ian about the above situation. He told me that no lactose was used in brewing Sunset Gold. So my friend must of gotten sick from something else he ate or drank, maybe? Thanks to Ian McCall for reaching out.

Maybe he was doing lines of sprinkle cheese in the bathroom.

I took me way too long for me to figure out what that L* meant at BW.

I thought the latest batch of Raider Bob was spot on. His side kick Biker Bob is just as good. Both will be joining me on my next adventure across the PacO. Thank you Ian.

Bumping this thread. This is the current batch of Ian's Cloud Crusher DIPA, maybe the best DIPA he's done yet.

Hey Bud. I stopped in yesterday with some Revision cans to share. I thought Social Fermentation DIPA was very close to Cloud Crusher. I think Ian has got this hazy thing pretty much dialed in for RiiP. I picked up a crowler of CC to compare to my other Revision cans.

This is the epitome of what a true west coast east hybrid should taste like. Citrus for days and that wonderful wallop of bitter hoppy pine on the back end. Crushable.

    Cheers.

Looks like they're making a smokey smores beer with the BBQ place that's typically at their events.
