it's a 6+ hour drive for me and I'm attending on my own since I didn't have anyone who could 100% confirm that far ahead... just sayin it would be more fun if I could have been able to bring a friend.

They didn't have any trouble finding people who could "100% confirm that far ahead". Props for being responsible though and not taking a spot from someone else.

It's definitely an annoyance, but I just chalk it up to another necessary evil to try and minimize shitlordery. Plus, I mean people have always been able to go without winning the lottery and attend the slew of events outside of the actual release sessions themselves...

That and I have to give them at at least a little bit of gratitude for even working out a +1 system, flawed though it may be.

Why the Hell doesn't the purchaser's name go on both tickets? Then you get in with the ID check and can bring whoever you want but still can't resell your extra ticket. Sorry if I missed that suggestion somewhere else (go ahead and delete/roast me) but wouldn't that solve all the headaches associated with +1s who can't go due to last minute issues? This method has worked well with Central Waters biggest releases and every hyped NIN sold-out presale concert I've been to.

Of course you can re-sell the ticket; you just have to sync your arrival with that of your "customer".

And with proper planning and coordination with your mule/reseller/disinterested wife/grandma you could've still done this regardless of the name on the ticket. Does safeguarding the precious really take precedent over the amount of inconvenience this is obviously causing other customers? Why stop there? Why not put GPS beacons in the bottles so they can self-destruct upon arrival at the home of a known reseller?

The idea is that the extra ticket is for an established guest, who has at the very least committed to going at the time of purchasing the ticket, not to be a placeholder for any mule that you can scrape up off the side of the road between the time of ticket purchase and the release, nor someone to whom a ticket can be resold.

It obviously doesn't entirely alleviate bringing mules along, but it at least tackles reselling of tickets (being physically present with the purchaser also does nothing to address this).

Maybe it's just me, but I see the move to allowing for a +1 system is a kindness and the guest-specific ticketing is just a means to minimize exploitation. Don't quite understand why the additional criteria of bringing a guest are so upsetting when it hasn't even been an option in the past.

Wow! Chill! I was just pointing out your suggestion does not prevent re-selling the ticket!

    Sensitive, aren't we...

FWIW I am not going to the release and don't have a dog in this race but I feel for the people who have things come up at the last minute. I get it may be a 'too bad, life happens' kind of thing, but it sucks to get pumped for a big, hard to get event like this only to not be able to attend or bring a friend due to these kinds of technicalities.

Understood, didn't really intend for the response to come off as accusatory.

Simply put, the easiest way to handle these releases was the single-ticket per winner system. I think that bums a lot people out who don't have a friend who won to attend with them. This is a step in the right direction to alleviate that problem.

I agree, your solution would be the simplest for making sure everyone could bring one guest along for sure, but can you imagine some of the allotments people would walk away with if they had an entire posse buying up +1 tickets to be filled by mules after the fact? Or how many would be bought with no guest in mind that would turn into no-show or resold?

Ideal world, these limitations wouldn't be needed. But beer shitlordery knows no depth of douchebaggery.

Not a huge fan of loads of the things TG does with respect to pricing/hype/public interaction/legal matters/etc.. But giving this a whirl, even if not completely ideal, is a good move.

What are you even talking about? How does no ticket transfers prevent you from attending the event? Even in a worst case scenario where your +1 was the DD, you could still make other arrangements and get your allotment.

I didn’t get a ticket, so I’m hoping to get a bottle or two because of the no shows. It seems like my chances are improved by the fact that the tickets aren’t transferable. People are going to complain whether there’s a guest or no guest, whether it’s online sale or lottery, or if they post at midnight about a release the next day. I kind of like this way, and maybe I’ll still get a bottle.

I won a ticket last year. Just one, no guest allowed at the time. The old lady still tagged along and it was a good time. Lots of fun stops on the way, lots of great shares and events in town. Good folks for her to hang with when I walked up the hill to get my bottles. Would have been nice to have a guest option last year, but it all worked out in the end.

for sure. I'm just butthurt that my original buddy had to back out and I couldn't lineup another friend to go in time. Same thing happened at darklord day this past year and I ended up paying for both allotments and bringing a mule...I had fun but that hurt the wallet.

So, you don't have a problem with the ticketing policies? It seems a bit much to expect an event ticket to provide you with more dependable friends and fiscal responsibility.

Yes, it’s true you can do whatever you want and not make any sense. That’s not really a discussion though.

In case anyone still needed evidence that literally anything TG does will cause a shitstorm, we are now approaching a cage match over how guests are allowed in for a ticketed release.

You have to be 21 to participate in this hobby right?
