Now for all of you that have drank this brew, was it worth the hassle?

Then don't buy it, or contribute to the hype, then it dies down. Not a shot at Lutter specifically. Though seriously, if people don't think it is worth it then, then why the hell are people lining up to buy it?

This was the line at Petrol for Round 2.

There were a LOT of unhappy folks after me and my coworker. We were the last ones to get our 3 bottle limit out of there.

Because all the hype leads to lines of people who buy as much as they can as fast as they can for fear of the "small" supply running out. Whereas if everyone calmed down it would last at at least a week instead of 12 minutes

It's $10 at a bar. I thought it sounded high at first, but it would be $5-$6 if at Specs or such. And compared to Jester King's prices isn't out of line at all. JK is about as overhyped as any brewery in TX.

This is SA's first bottle released barrel aged beer and is about on par with limited bombers of non BA beers that have bigger production. I feel Austinites need to not rail on SA when JK is as big a hype train. And this is from some who's tired of rushing around too.

Or everyone can calm down, and realize that there will be other "rare" beers made. As is evident with the last two months or so, and stop complaining about every little thing Saint Arnold does:slight_smile:

This bitching is getting old. Seriously, if you don't want to chase St A's beers than don't chase them, if you don't like St A's beer than don't drink them. There is no other brewery in TX that BA's love to hate on more than St Arnolds.

For example, without pulling up old threads, I remember quite alot of bitching about St A's not doing anything in bombers. Some people wanted bombers because they make great extras in trades, others wanted bombers so they could buy one bottle and split it without committing to a 6 pack, etc So what happens? St A's come out with bombers. Now St A's comes out with 6 packs of Endeavour and there is bitching about that.

People bitch about having to chase down Pumpkinator. St A's brewed TWICE as much Pumpkinator as last year and in some places it was/is sitting on shelves 2 weeks later. Yet the hype that was created by BA users is what led to alot of people feeling they needed to chase it when in fact they didn't. Again, St A's brewed twice as much as last year and some people think St A's is purposely hyping their own beers by making it "limited".

Now Bishops Barrel. BA's had been complaining for years that St A's never does anything barrel aged. Now they do and its not good enough, not worth chasing down, too expensive, etc. This is St A's first attempt at putting anything BA in bottles and they are starting off small hence the limited supply. They're not intentionally creating a limited supply so people have to chase it down. They could release everything in Houston, so it wouldn't be as limited there but than everyone else in the state would be crying they didn't get any. The price that many people already seem to have a problem with may be the favorite local beer store that you love and adore jacking up the price to take advantage of you, not St Arnolds. St Arnolds, like all breweries, sells their beers for a set price. Much of the time it is the stores, bars, and restaurants that raise the price trying to maximize their profits. Yet St A's is often the villian.

I could go on and on about how many people make broad accusations against St A's without knowing facts. This isn't directed at everyone or anyone specifcally although there are certain people that seem to have a personal vendetta against St A's. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that but endless bitching and accusations without knowing facts or just ignoring the facts is bullshit. Now I'll wait for the flurry of hate

Also, maybe bars should have limited the bottles to 1 per person instead of the 3 per person.

Something like THIS - There should have been a 2 bottle limit across the board. Also I'm seeing the price fluctuate across the city for this. I've seen it go for as low as $6, As high as $12 - It's up to the retailer.

The hype has gone way beyond BA and into the general public now. I know several folks, who are not BA'ers, who where well aware of Pumpkinator's release. It's not just the BA hype anymore. Word has gotten out. This could be good for SA but it can also lead to a lot of hate/hype.

That's just typical business. Same as Spec's prices vs HEB vs D&Q. Different operating cost for each business etc. Some will also gouge more than others.

Don't forget how pissed people were when DR 12 came out and it was recommended that it be aged for six months.

I will say it again. Cheers to SA and other local breweries for pushing the local beer scene in the right direction. However, when your product escapes it's target audience and becomes more or less a status symbol to the masses then it is incredibly frustrating to "beer advocates" who I would dare say find ways to better enjoy or utilize these rarities over Sam Adams guy who is still developing their palate. This is very much so out of the hands of breweries in the Twitter age. Everyone likes to point fingers and true a lot of them are being pointed at SA which isn't completely fair, but at the same time, knowing what the local scene is like and STILL going in the direction of extremely limited one-offs rather than acquiring the resources to develop and produce a stronger year round lineup can be obnoxious when it is so difficult to get your hands on even one bottle.

No need to revisit that but I was on board for that being frustrating. Maybe it was just a perception problem..but it's often that breweries put the "drink one now and store some for later"..DR12 was the first beer I remember being marketed as "drink later".

Aside from that I think the new BA's, me included, are just happy to have these fun and experimental brews being produced in Texas. We can't both point to the success of Texas craft while shunning the trappings of a growing culture.

I may be wrong in my interpretation but their year round offering is growing at an alarming pace per year and has a few GABF medal winners as well. Another case of some people want bigger beers, some want better year round beers some want no St A's beers which is all fine and good but they can only do so much at one time.

Hey, I'm fine with them being as successful as possible.. it's good for other Houston breweries too... I'm just sad I can't get out and find one.. but maybe I'll get lucky! My cousin's birthday is today. He is at Petrol Station. He missed out on the second run, but when they found out it was his birthday he got a bottle.. pretty cool of them. He said it was really good.

Yeah... I don't need one that bad at all..ha. I'd pay ten at most to try a 12 oz bottle... but good luck to them.

Austin peeps - I dont know where else here will be getting it, but Whip In posted today that they have it. They also said, however, that they would NOT be allowing walk-outs, so you have to drink it there. Just FYI
