I'm likely passing through Burlington, VT this weekend and will stop for lunch or dinner. What are some options for a family-friendly restaurant/bar with a broad and local taplist? thanks.
The Farmhouse usually has a great taplist; never had the food there but it seems like your standard upscale gastropub fare Hen of the Wood doesn't have a huge selection of beers, but it's always great local stuff and the food is amazing. Mule Bar isn't in Burlington proper, but it's close by & always has a great taplist.
Second this. Food at Farmhouse is fantastic, and it's family friendly. I don't know of anywhere else where you're going to get that selection of beers in a family friendly environment. Last time I was at Foam Brewers, they usually had a food truck and it was moderately easy to get a table outside on the patio, grab food from the food truck and get really good beers. Might have changed -- been about a year since I've been there and they've been blowing up lately -- but not a bad option if indeed they still get the food trucks. Would call ahead.
Farmhouse Tavern is your best bet - great tap list, diverse menu. Hen of the Wood is not open for lunch, typically reservation only., and menu isn’t geared for kids. Mule Bar is across the river in Winooski - good taplist, but small space and not what I’d call kid friendly. If you go across the river I’d suggest Waterworks instead. Flatbread Pizza might be a good option, but you’d be limited to Zero Gravity beers.
Yup, Farmhouse. Go there, eat burgers, drink Edward, be happy. (The actual factual name of the place is "The Farmhouse Tap & Grill", just to avoid any potential confusion)
If you enjoy spending $16.95 on a burger, by all means go to Farmhouse. Food is good, but definitely overpriced. Tap list is one of the best around. I'll throw out Manhattan Pizza. Cheap slices and a very well curated tap list. With the kiddos I'd suggest lunch over dinner as it does feel significantly more bar-like in the evening. If it's nice out, you can get right out on the water at Splash, Spot on the Dock, or Burlington Bay (across Battery Street) and enjoy your suds with a view of the Adirondacks over Lake Champlain.
Foam closed this Sat. from 11am to 11pm for two straight sessions of Funk on the Water. Ticket holders admitted only. The Garage on the corner of Main & Battery has an extensive taplist, and decent food.
Mule bar, foam on a weekend and the garage as family friendly.. really guys. I say the farmhouse, skinny pancake,Manhattan pizza (if looking for easy pizza, flatbread, the spot ( will be a wait if nice out, el cortijo ( small list but Edward, heady, focal and great margaritas) You can find fiddlehead ipa, heady and focal at anywhere decent in downtown Burlington. Or you could go byob at Folino’s
You know, I had a beer at Manhattan Pizza before dinner across the street, and i agree with this. Excellent tap list, and pizza lookd good! Farmhouse was a cool spot too
Honestly, this was one of my thoughts, and a great option. Stop in to City Market beforehand, grab an excellent 4 pack, and then sit down for the best pizza around.
Just got back from there. We had a pre meal beer at Foam while the kids played in the park across the way. There was a taco truck there, but we ate at Flatbread. The tap list was all Zero Gravity and the pizza was excellent. We also had a beer at Farmhouse, but didn't eat there as the wait was over an hour on a Wed night. Go to Healthy Living if you want cans to go, was there yesterday and they had a nice selection.
Farmhouse, Foam, ZG (get the cask) and Healthy Living for cheese/beer take away. If you get extended - have dinner at HotW - Heady on tap. Cheers
Or you could just get beer from the actual brewery attached to the restaurant? (Fiddlehead and Folinos share a building, I don't know why you'd BYOB unless you don't want Fiddlehead beers)
Folino's has a new location in downtown Burlington, near City Market. It is BYOB. The original one remains next door to Fiddlehead in Shelburne.
