We’re in a hotel for a few days whilst our floors are being refinished (it’s a big floor), so naturally I transported some of my stash to ease the pain of our dislocation. This old school DIPA is easing my pain. Simply magnificent, IMHO.

Wilmington Brewing Company All the Cool Kids are doing it. NEIPA great nose, little thin and flavors fade a little too quick.

Alvarado/Moonraker Spaced Out DIPA courtesy of @TheIPAHunter . A collab beer. The beer was rated outstanding but between you and me my friend I disagree. Definitely not bad but one I would not buy. Not even close to all the others you sent.

Having said that, I will take all the free ones anyone wants to send.

Summit Unchained #23 Dark Infusion Coffee Milk Stout, a really outstanding one-off they came out with a couple of years ago, and should make part of their lineup. Only available in samplers and on tap now.

When you say best, as compared to what? I thought it was good, but I'm still below the rDev. Nice to see your thoughts, though. It just proves that we all have different palates. Cheers!

This beer is too light in body and taste to be really great, which is too bad since the aroma led me to believe this would be really good. Oh well, can't win them all. Cheers!

    Long post alert, scroll quickly....

Ok, it's been a while and I happened to see these beers in the fridge not getting any younger (though they are right at a month old). When I reviewed Woods & Waters, I mentioned it was more like Lunch than Another One - two more highly rated Maine Beer offerings. Let's see how similar or different the new-ish beer is to the one I have had for a few years now.

In the pour, the lighter ABV beer is a easily lighter in color, with Woods & Waters being a pale yellow versus the orange brass of Lunch. Lunch had a little more of the fluffy head and it clung better to the glass.

Initially citrus (yellow grapefruit) and dank notes hit with decent force on Woods & Waters. Lunch actually has a little more caramel malt influencing a pith and lightly resinous pine. The Lunch is a older by a week, but Woods packs more than a weeks worth more wallop in the olfactory department.

The lightness streak continues into feel, as Woods & Waters has a lightness that has a slightly watery side of it. Woods has a more full feel with a more robust palate. The lighter carbonation (go figure) on Waters is actually nice, though.

Lightly toasted malts join a more woody that resinous pine in front of Lunch. The resinous aspect grows towards the end of the taste, though. The cleanliness of Woods & Waters is almost too much up front - a dry Carr's cracker begs for the grass, pith, and lemon zest that eventually join the party.

Overall, today I think I enjoyed Woods & Water just a slight bit more when cold, but Lunch caught up with some warmth. The crescendo in the lighter beer is neat, but a little slow to start. Lunch is a nicely flavored beer that is a little more balanced in this sitting than I recall it in the past. The slight buildup of the resinous quality as it warmed brought it to equally, but not more, enjoyable today.

So, not as similar as I imagined, but I have fallen into the opinion that Lunch has changed a little bit from my memory. Whether my memory or the brewer is to blame, I'll let you decide. If only I had Another One on hand to complete the comparison to see which it is more like...

Edit: the GF actually picked Woods & Water blind over her proclaimed favorite beer, claiming that Lunch was less distinct (which I take as meaning a little more balanced to support my claim)

I didn't love it, either. I thought I was the one who was messed up. Cheers!
