True, but beer has a long history that is damned simple to learn. Even without traveling. I kinda wish @ding would check back in on session beer! And you are right, people everywhere are rather into their own culture. Still, the beer world in America is sold on its greatness. It is not a problem, but it does often seem funny.

Yeah, they’re just using it as a play on words. It’s an American IPA.

Germans weren't any more knowledgeable about their or our beer culture either. My intended point was that most people don't keep up on these kinds of things outside of this site. For us to shit on any country for not knowing beer history is kind of silly. Most of the world just drinks the stuff, only a small fraction of people actually think about it to the level of people on this site.

Yellow Lagers are the worst kind of beer.

Pretty sure Prohibition and The Great Depression weren't a good time to be an American, but, yeah, post-WWII prosperity has certainly been berry, berry good to us.

I was thinking more of The Marshall Plan really. Anyway, Herbert Hoover was a catbird now, wasn't he? I have walked in some military cemeteries in France, Belgium, and Holland and it really is moving. Just near me, New Garden Friends Meeting- where my parents are buried- is an amazing historical place. British, German, Polish, French, and American soldiers are interred there. Some in mass graves. It is hallowed ground and has gravestones with birth dates back into the 1600s. Americans are damned good people my friend!

When in pforzheim, I climbed atop a war memorial. It was a giant hill built from the rubble of the old town, now covered in grass.(with a path to the monument on top) It speaks to the spirit of man that our and their country's people have such a good relationship after such bloody wars. These days it's hard to see how a war would ever end...

How about the golden ones? I'm not partial to yellow, but gold does seem a touch better......

Gee, that's just like what a couple of members of my family have been telling me, only they're talking about the Latin language having a long history that is simple to learn...

Yep, beer is older than Latin likely. Anyway, I always liked North Carolina's motto-Esse Quam Vederi: To be rather than to seem. It's all Greek to me!!!

Actually the origins of beer may not be older than the origins of Latin since Latin seems to be derived from Proto-italic which had it's roots in Indo-European which seems to be derived from Proto-Indo-European which can be traced back to about 4000 BCE.

I am deeply interested in the history of languages and what it is that makes humans pretty good at trying to describe what they see and know. I find all kinds of artifacts around here, thousands of years old, and would love to know some of the languages these people spoke. I love where I live!

Yeah, that broad brush generalization is a pretty common stereotype some folks have, both here and abroad.

I stand by my previous statement, although I will also add that Sahti is probably even worse.

I don't want to pay draft prices for to go beer. When I can get a pint at the bar for $5 I don't want to spend $20 for a 4 pack of cans. I know it's 25% cheaper but, still. Oh and craft beer if you're gonna try and mimic a BMC style at least do it better. I had a "champagne style beer" from Surly yesterday. If i'm gonna spend $4 for that make it better than High Life.
