Oh yeah, with shipping that changes everything. But as for being a local I would pass up distro stuff I could have bought with discount. How mich is it to ship a 12 bottle shipper from Bruery anyways?

    Hi Everyone,

My apologies for Bakery running out once again on our website-- we are working on this and will have an eMail out to members, likely tomorrow morning. In short, we're adjusting where inventory is headed and have more to offer very soon. Totally understand the frustration.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

I would pay $28 to ship to my sister in law in San Francisco, then an additional $54 to MD. The additional cost of shipping was $6.8 a bottle. Imagine turning Frucht into a $20 bottle. It is quite pricey to get limited stuff. I too wouldn't buy from the Bruery if I knew the beer would hit distribution. Having the DC location is a godsend for me, I can now purchase everything if I choose to.

If one purchases the $21 shipper for the small batch release, does it ship in a plain, unmarked box? Or is there some sort of insignia on the outside that indicates it is beer? I am thinking about shipping this to a friend in CA for forwarding to me in NJ, but the courier services will be suspicious if it indicates its beer on the outside.

Unlike regular shippers, the small batch set ships in its nicely designed and colorful box that loudly proclaims beer is inside. Probably need to take the whole box and just drop it in a slightly larger box.

I'll help you get rid of that 2nd box ;-)

If you don't care about the box, I don't see why you couldn't have them packed in a standard shipper. It's a plain card board box. They do apply a sticker to the outside that indicates that it contains alcohol. But that can be easily removed by your friend before it gets reshipped.

Surprised no one else is talking about this:

    "Dear DC Society Member,

Cheers from the staff at The Bruery Store, we hope this finds you well. In follow up to the changes made to our shipping process to D.C. we are writing to let you know any orders you currently had held in CA up through orders placed on Wednesday August 8th have arrived at The Bruery Store in D.C. and are currently available for pickup. Remember, you no longer need to email us to have your orders ship. They now ship automatically each month.

Please note, you are not required to pick up your orders within a 30 day window. That portion of the process is no longer being observed. Since we won’t be interacting with you on an order by order basis, we do need advance notice (at least 24hrs) prior to picking up your order. This won’t always be enforced, but if the store staff is slammed on a Saturday, we may ask you to have lunch and a beer at the nearby market!"

    This is a nice change.

This is true, but that's why I'm trying to figure all of this stuff out.

On the one hand, I imagine that the Small Batch shipper is quite a bit smaller than the 12-bottle (750ml) shipper. Since FedEx charges by dimension and this is being shipped to NJ, that savings for a smaller box could be substantial.

On the other hand, this could all be moot if the box is going to be a red flag.

Lots of Bakery just dropped here in the Bay Area. Kinda wished I knew it was coming that fast. Taking some to a friend and I shipped a few cans up here.

if its a box similar to the preservation boxes, your trustee should be able to disassemble the box pretty easily, turn the box inside out, tape it up and ship it back ... i've used the preservation boxes that way to ship, work out well.

Alas, It is not similar to those. It is a fucking marvel of cardboard engineering with more flaps and compartments than you may have thought possible. Might be pretty hard to turn it inside out.

You should see an Orval box. Brain surgery is easier to manage than building one of those.

Just go old school with some plain brown wrapping paper. Tied up with string, for bonus points.

I took the first box apart to send to my trade partner. Never again, that thing was nuts, I was really impressed by it.
