SA has said to age basically every DR they have released. Sans DR 11, though the first DIPA they did for the DR series (either 1 or 2, can't remember now) aged wonderfully.

Edit: Just looked at the BA listing, DR #1. Says it is an American Barleywine. That is BS, they released as a DIPA, and was listed as that for years. Apparently till now, and the powers that be decided to change it. Double ninja edit, it was DR 3. Getting it all mixed up:flushed:

For the record, I agree and recognize St A's has it's flaws, every brewery does, I just see more inaccurate matter of fact statements with reference to St A's than any other TX brewery.

I understand people's frustration with DR 12 and the reccomended aging but it's really not that big if a deal. Fine, they released a beer (like it or not) that they recommended putting away for months because it was young and would improve. I understand some people want their beer released when it is ready to be consumed by the the breweries standards. But there are several other breweries that put the exact same recommendations on their bottles.

Also, are there several well known beers that vastly improve with age (Ie bcbs, brooklyn choc stout, etc) that most people know improve with age yet there is no recommendation on the bottle. Maybe we should be pissed at them for not releasing the beer at its prime and definitely for not suggesting I age it.

Nope, was always a Barleywine. DR3 was the first DIPA.

So that puts a real damper on the fact that i was JUST AROUND THE GODDAMN corner today.

so the point is moot i guess.

shit, sorry for the triple post, but this thread kept populating when i was replying lol

So everyone thinks an on-premises-only release wasn't part of putting this release on a hype train.

    Sounds legit.

It would have been even harder if we had to go to Specs or the like.

I say 50/50. It all depends on the luck of the draw and the time you get there. As previously stated, some places sold out before their scheduled opening time. With a release this small it's more luck/time off than anything.

Edit...and as far as having to age DR12, no one bitch's when Deschuttes releases BB with a best "after" date.

It would have been really hard to chase with it being much smaller than a DR release. I think the restaurant/bar thing is good, but it should have to be consumed on premise and just limit the customer to 1 bottle each trip... in a perfect world that would work as well as it probably could.

It's so random at stores based on delivery dates and time. It is all luck. With this release at least people are seeing tweets about release well before the release.

I agree with this, and I know for a fact that more places than Petrol Station and Hay Merchant are getting this. People will be able to find some with just a bit of effort.

Or maybe it has to do with the fact that the release was so small that they couldn't satisfy every off premise account in the entire state. Or maybe it was the fact that St A's did want more people to be able to try it so they sold it to places where it was meant for on site consumption so people couldn't walk out with a case.

Do you have any idea what would happen if they tried to release that small of an amount to every off premise account or even just the off premise accounts that are their bigger supporters? One, not every account would get some which would piss off alot of accounts. Two, say for example, Central Market got a case. Most CM's don't have bottle limits and if they do they aren't enforced that well. That small amount that would go to CM would most likely be bought out by one or two customers which would obvioulsy mean even less for everyone else.

There are several other reasons you obvioulsy haven't even considered. Thanks for supporting the point I already made above by people making inaccurate statements without knowing facts.

Hay Merchant getting 30 cases is a crock. This was for old established accounts. Hay Merchant is a year old. I guess like with anything if they throw money at things they will get special treatment.

Yep. Just had one at Flying Saucer in Sugar Land. $10 a 12oz bottle. Ouch! Good, but not as much a stout as I like. Very sweet. Lots of molasses and bourbon barrel, but no coffee, chocolate or anise that I noticed.
