I think Odell did both 4 and 6 packs of the Double Pilsner.

I'm assuming that all of those beers they're resurrecting are in 12oz singles now. I almost bought a 12oz bottle of Extra Special Red (my personal fave) until I saw it was barrel aged. Fuck that noise, there's no need to mess with a classic.

Never had the original Extra Special Red, but lately hoppy reds aged are my favorite style of beer to age in bourbon barrels (rye barrels, even better). I never saw that make it down to ABQ, so never got to try. The ONE beer of the series we did not get too, too. I was a little disappointed.

Anyways, back on topic, I will be up in Denver this weekend. Maybe I will see if I can grab a bottle or pour of the Double Pilsner. Now that they have their taproom in Rino...

I don't really dislike the idea behind putting a beer like ESR in barrels. I just wish they'd release the normal one. It's been forever and literally everything is being needlessly tossed into barrels these days.

Related to the new tap room - it's a fantastic space. Well worth the trip if you're anywhere in that area. Plenty of other beer haunts around and the new Shake Shack is right next door, too.

I’m sitting here at Odell sipping on a Double Pilsner really wanting to say it tasted better before, but I just can’t. Its every bit the same lovely bev that I remember :heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Comrade is tapping the new batch of Lost Shaker Mexican-Style Lager on Tuesday, August 14. Brewed with 6-row barley malt, flaked corn and lightly hopped with German Hersbrucker. 4.9% ABV

    Sounds Great.
Is that just for “On-Site” consumption, or will this make it to the distribution? Most like On-Site only.

    Breaking News:
My moms favorite beer is Colorado Lager now. She never had beers at her place other than ones I’d left... now she always has it.
    I’m proud of her

Colorado Lager was a big hit at my office picnic the other day, too. It's hard not to like that one.

I am making a stop in Grand Junction for work. Utah beer selection is limited, so I am loading up. I may get a couple IPAs but I am very interested in some CO lagers. I will probably go to Fisher's Discount Liquor Barn unless someone talks me out of it. I did read a lot of this thread for ideas, so thanks for all the info. Couple questions:

    1. Bierstadt and Zwei have no bottles/cans, right?

    2. Prost has bottles, yes? Hoping for some dunkel, marzen, kellerbier. I am very interested in keller/zwickel if there are any others that would be in GJ. Does Crooked Stave Von Pilsner see wide distro?

    3. Pils I am thinking Polestar, Odell Double maybe? Anything I am missing?

    4. Oktoberfest selection in Utah is... substandard. I will be scoping out the Germans (any Augustiner?), and also: Upslope, Left Hand, Odell. Any other good candidates?

    Thanks in advance!

The best local ofest is from Wibby, Imo. I'm not sure if it's out yet, though. Dry Dock has a good one, too.

Hand's down, Crooked Stave's Von Pilsner is the best you'll find. Load up on that shit, you can usually find it fresh, and it is awesome.

Prost is very iffy. I'd pass, they have packaging/diacetyl/infection problems.

A lot of people love odell's lagers. I'm not a fan of any of them. Try before you buy is all I can say.

Oh, and if you see Wibby Volksbier on draft, get it, it is awesome.

We actually have a ton of really good Oktoberfests in the area now. Most are of the burnt orange variety, but I prefer that kind vs. the new school export hell Maerzens they actually serve in Munich. Bierstadt, Dry Dock, Station 26, and Comrade are some really good ones in town.
I still need to try the new one from Ska. I generally like all of their beers, so I assume it'll probably be really good.
Left Hand's used to be the gold standard but I swear it gets a little sweeter every year. I think they're deliberately trying to copy the one from Sam Adams or something.
I don't trust Prost anymore. They keep bouncing between world class and horrible and I just don't have time for that.
Never had the one from Wibby, but I'm game to give it a shot. It feels like their stuff deviates from tradition just a tiny bit, which sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn't.

Wibtoberfest debuts at our anniversary party September 8th, then hits the market the following week!

Thank you for the compliment! We have been really digging the latest batch of Volksbier Vienna.

    Thanks everyone for recs!

Too bad about Prost. Maybe I'll try a single if they have one, just for drill.

Wibby sounds up my alley but I couldn't see on your website that your bottles/cans make it to Grand Junction?

My apologies, we do not distribute as far west as Grand Junction yet.

Just tried the new Ska Oktoberfest and I liked it, but didn’t Love it. I usually really like their Beers, but what was different with this one? Not sure, but it seems to be missing something. Grab a six pack and report back.

Hard to believe, but actually had a very tasty unfiltered Helles at the Highlands Ranch outpost of Rock Bottom last night. I’ve never known the chain to be much more than mediocre, but it was really very nice. Crackery malt, perhaps just a little more hop (Hersbrucker) nip than you typically experience in the style. Easily drained 3 glasses.

The craft chains (RB, Potts, GB) shockingly do pretty good work. Their flagships tend to be a little "unadventurous" but they're almost all well made. Seasonals and one offs are often fantastic. Apparently they're all crazy sticklers for quality and QA/QC, so the brewers coming out of them tend to be damn good.
I work pretty close the the Lone Tree RB, so I might swing by and see what they have on. Hopefully they have that helles, too.

I definitely hold GB in a higher opinion than I do RB. RB has always been lackluster to me, but GB makes some very good lagers.
