Malort has been vividly described to me by some Chicago residents but not in flattering terms.

 

I couldn’t like this more if I tried.

 

Been fixing up the apartment all day but can finally lay down on the couch and relax. The missus is out so I'm home alone and cleverly enough threw a few beers in the fridge earlier on. I'm starting out with Stacks of Haze out of Mikkeller San Diego. It's actually quite good, just don't drink it with pizza. Quite refreshing and smooth.

 

It is nowhere near as bad as people make it sound. I think those types of descriptions are used to create an aura around the fun of drinking something that “tastes bad.”

The popular one available in Chicago tastes much better than something like in my picture which is vodka infused with wormwood plant. If you like the bitter flavor, you’ll like Malört.

That’s a decent Helles lager as a sidecar. Their smoked black lager was also pretty decent, if a tad watery at first. It’s a complaint I have with quite a few of their stronger beers, so I wonder if it’s not just the water but the chemistry of it. Eh, who cares.

 

Oozlefinch Old Fogey Hazy IPA... very good
