Lived in Quebec for 3 years, Einstein. Le Castor from Yakima in Rigeau is one of the best IPAs in Canada.
And that changes nothing. Canada is an over-regulated, overpriced, governemnt infected shithole for anyone who enjoys freedom, being respected as an adult, and beer.

    And the hits keep comin'....
An Alberta court just had to rule that Alberta was imposing illegal taxes on "imported" craft beer from other provinces.
That's the word...imported....because that's how effed up Canada is. Products from INSIDE the "country" (for lack of a better word) are termed "imported".
A backwards, protectionist, isolationist, government-run backwater.

I guess you were looking at your reflection when you posted that.

Do you have any self awareness at all?

I think you are outnumbered here so we win. I am just sad that only 1 BA canada member cared to correct your thinking at all. Hmmm...

Most of us are too busy suffering under the yoke of our oppressive regime to use a site such as this. By the time we’ve stood in line for our daily half loaf of bread, our allotment of toilet paper, our portable water, etc. 3/4 of the day is done and we’ve still not had a chance to fill out the paperwork that allows us to purchase our 1 bottle of dog piss saison per month.

Well, if you have to stand in line for it, it's also portable!

Christ Almighty, don't feed the trolls! I've been reading this shit-fest for nigh on a fortnight, and can only conclude that this asshat has a hell on wheels of a Canadian ex-partner (I can actually sympathize, a wee bit, on that matter), or he (?) got cited for a DUI on our side of border, without the requisite 'Mounties' performing the deed for a self-aggrandizing photo-op.

I was in Belize earlier this month, and had a couple Belicans myself. I’m normally not a fan of light beer or Pilsners/lagers, and I can’t even drink AALs. But I gotta say, I really enjoyed the Belican. It was super refreshing and easy to drink in the hot humid conditions. No weird aftertastes, not too malty. I was quite pleased.

For those of you planning the Canadian Artic Brewery Tour to get a handle on just how bad the beer scene really is up here in Canada (the land where freedom comes to die!), please take note of the following new brewery opening in Newfoundland on July 1st. It may not be in the arctic, but it's name suggests a titillating experience! Merch ISOs are going to be crazy!!!

Preach! Lol. When was the last time you were in WV? It has gotten a lot better in a relatively short period of time. We still lag behind the rest of the country of course, but things are much better. WV was a literal desert for craft beer when I first moved here at the end of 2004. There has been an explosion of local microbrewery in recent years though, and some of them are quite good. Just last year Weathered Ground opened, our first farmhouse brewery, specializing in sours and saisons. They are also adept at the basics, as their stouts, lagers and IPAs are very good.

We also have some pretty great beer festivals here now. My wife scored VIP tickets to Rails & Ales for me, which is tomorrow! There will be over 60 breweries there, with over 20 of them being local. There's also some great regionals, and a respectable amount of Belgian and German breweries making an appearance including Ayinger and Weihenstephaner.

So yes it's still not a great place for craft beer but things have dramatically improved. I don't know how much further things will go, but for now it's kinda booming. I still frequently find myself lamenting what is not available here, but being a glass half full kind of man, it's becoming increasingly easier very to focus on what we do have.

Nothing like a submarine, the middle east, or Africa, BUT...

Austin Texas, given its hipster pedigree, was like a beer desert for me. It was better to stick to bourbon and gin. I've decided, if the longitude is wrong for hops, they won't have great beer.

Strange. I literally took a trip to Austin a few years back to check out the beer scene. Food, music etc. played a part in my choice, but my main interest was the beer. Jester King and Live Oak were my main targets, but enjoyed another 10 or so breweries while on the trip.

And by strange, I don't mean you are strange. Just odd that we had completely different experiences.

Well, to be fair, I wasn't there to visit breweries. I was visiting a friend. We hit up Barley Swine and The Salt Lick. I guess my main beer exposure was a monster store in the suburbs, and the bars downtown. Saw some great music. Had an absolute blast. I love Austin. I just don't get the same feeling for beer there that I get in the North.

Borocay, Philippines last time I was there. You couldn't get anything but San Miguel beer anywhere. I'd swear it was like they had enforcers who would break your knees if you served anything other than San Miguel LOL.

Yeah, makes sense. I didn't stop at the places you mentioned. If you make it back there are definitely a few worth seeing. JK and Live Oak have great scenery and beer, Lazarus, Last Stand, ABGB and a few others had some nice options and great variety.
