Some of you may know that I love Baladin's Xyauyu barleywine series. I saw in some recent photos from Cantillon's Quintessence tasting some Xyauyu bottles with labels that have "Barrel" written on top, and subsequently found this.

What's the deal? Are there variants with different barrels (some of the RB reviews imply so)? Is this in the United States?

    Thanks.

Had it at Quintessence and it was amazing. They were the very last brewery and were getting pretty generous with their pours at the very end and it definitely put me over the top but in the best of ways. Very rich, hid the alcohol well and was oh so smooth.

I wonder what they would charge for this. The regular barleywine runs around $50 from what I've seen, so maybe $150 per 750mL would be fair?

They're in 500ml bottles, like the un-barreled variations. Hopefully not that expensive...

Anybody want to chime in with any more details?

Looks like this was aged in rum barrels. Cool!

There a few Binny's in the Chi-Burbs where I've seen the Silver and Copper versions.

I had about five tasters of this at Quintessence. Along with the amazing amphora lambic, this was definitely the star of the day for me. It's amazing stuff, I'll go as far as to say it's the best barleywine I've ever had. I can hardly still call it a beer, but it's the most beautiful woody chocolate malty liqueur I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.

There's no cap to begin with (nor is the bottle designed as such)....it's just a corked bottle. You don't need to re-cork fully, just plug the end like you would a wine bottle.
