That may be workable... But sadly in my area I could never find normal beers that actually had enough reviews by consistent reviewers.

And then it doesn't help when breweries release new beers.

Luckily I don't get pissed off when a beer is not of the highest caliber. I can get past a lot of mistakes in beers. I just probably won't buy them again.

I also rarely buy singles from stores because I don't trust ones that come up and I also don't always trust my first impression of a beer. It may take 2, or 3 to really understand if it's a good or bad beer or if my first opinion was based on prior food or drink or allergies, or stress.

I normally will buy a six pack of something new to try it... But I primarily only enjoy lower ABV more balanced beers so I'm lucky when there's actually a new one to try.

I don't know that "plenty" is the right word here.

Indeed it is not a perfect answer. Just a better one by far than every other answer. I don't have the money to make too many mistakes at the price of beer today. I realize a lot of people on this site do have the money just to go "A to Z" at the beer store. You don't mind making an occasional mistake, you say. I don't either, really, then again I can only think of one I made in the last few years, and of course it was a beer I didn't research first.

I will say generally that's bullshit.

You don't spend any more money buying a beer to see how it is than you do if you buy it after doing an hour of research. If you do pass up on buying the beer you will have bought another beer that will meet your desires more.

You don't save money in this by researching first. You can only save money by drinking less or buying cheaper beers, and there's no causation between researching and either of these.

If I don't really enjoy a beer then I don't get upset I just think about what I learned from the experience. What I like or don't like about it. Noting for more care from the brewery or style, or something.

If you’re just planning on buying X amount of beer then yeah over the long run it wouldn’t save you money. But if you’re going to keep buying beer until you’ve drank X amount of beer that you fully enjoy, then it would save you money no? I might not be wording that right but it makes sense in my own head

    Oh my.

I prefer not to buy bad beer. If I buy bad beer I could have bought beer I would have liked better. It doesn't save money, it saves me from wasting money I don't have to waste. YMMV.

This is no surprise to you, but a good number of folks like to join groups, spend money to be part of something, and it gratifies them. I don't happen to fit into this demographic anymore- if I ever did.. I've led and been to meetings up to my limit, but now I pontificate to my cohort in Mississippi and it suffices!

You don't necessarily save money but it's more of a focus on not wasting money. I'd rather research and spend my beer budget on good beer then go willy nilly and be stuck drinking liquid shit. There's no problem researching anything that you buy to make sure you're getting what you want.

Beer traditionalists are even more annoying than craft beer snobs.

I imagine that's a bigger thing in Europe, since we don't have as much of a tradition in 'murica.

Well, unless one counts macro drinkers who scoff at craft, or those who take state pride in beers like Shiner Bock.

If by "craft beer snobs" you mean "hazebois", then, I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you.

In my little head, if I am picturing a "hazeboi" and picturing a "craft beer snob" the image is completely different. Both are quite different than "Beer Traditionalists".
Hazeboi/Hasegurl has at least 3 popped collars and Wayfarer sunglasses
Craft Beer Snob has his/her pants rolled up a bit, suspenders and a wool cap

So Hazeboi = young millennial, Craft Beer Snob = hipster, and Beer Traditionalist = ?

    Beer Traditionalist:

Someone who only drinks Lagers and then lectures you on how these are a very subtle style that your feeble palate could never appreciate because it has been destroyed by drinking too many devil IPAs and is now unable to even pick up on these fine nuances. Generally rejects change and will frequently fondly refer to the good old days. Also hates and feels threatened by all modern beer styles because they already take up all the shelf space and will surely destroy all traditional beer entirely eventually. Is convinced that craft brewers do not use additional ingredients out of creativity but laziness instead, because they lack the skill to brew a subtle, nuanced beer like only zee Germans truly can.
