For what it's worth, the very chatty local Founders rep has been telling anyone who sits down to talk to him since, like, February or March that the last release of the year is going to be CBS.

But none of the dozens of us he's told are supposed to say anything about it, because it's a secret. Oops.

They’ve sent out postcards for almost every BA release this year.

Oh, dear friend. Please share. I have neither and am semi-social media incompetent.

Just a heads up...If its anything like the original run of Better Half they did not age very well. The molasses took over and turned to black liquorice.

Woah, mind blown. Why didn't I think of that. CBS without the maple syrup is basically BA Imperial Stout, which people have been clamoring for AND they've brought back on tap recently to "test it out". I can all but guarantee it's BA Imp Stout.

CBS doesn't have maple syrup. That said - isn't CBS without the maple barrels KBS?

Yeah that’s what I meant, maple syrup barrel aged. And no, it’s not KBS. It’s a new coffee/chocolate stout they make specifically for it that I think is different from KBS (there’s always been controversy what all the base beers are for these).

    From their website:
"CBS was born when we stumbled upon some bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup. We opted to put the same base beer as KBS, an imperialized version of Breakfast Stout, in the maple barrels and, after one taste, we knew we had something special. Rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate meld together in what can only be described as a transcendental drinking experience."

If you go back and look at various threads, there's so many different reports out there. For the longest time Founder's never had this information on their website. It has not always been there. Even in podcasts and interviews, this information was not shared. Founder's reps have indicated that at one point the barrels used for CBS were actually KBS barrels that then held maple syrup before again holding the base for CBS. Still yet previously I had found a report saying that KBS does not have the same base as CBS, which is also different than the base for BS. No idea if the bases are all the same now, but yes the official word on their webpage is that KBS and CBS base are the same, just different barrels.

Their website says the 2017 version is the same beer as KBS aged in maple bourbon barrels. There literally could not be anything more definitive.

It's definitive since 2017. It's not definitive for batches prior.

Yeah, agree on that. Since it was brewed in a lot less volume, there's probably less info out there. The way they worded it above, it's kind of tricky - the phrasing makes it sound like it's always been that way but also seems intentionally vague...

I'd say Black Biscuit, but that is probably wishful thinking.

It's going to be funny to see the outrage from people regardless of what it is. Unless its BA FIS. There will be nothing funny about that. No sir.

Actually, the outrage over the upcoming Belgian Dark Ale will be completely hilarious to me. Most people will still buy at least a 4 pack amid their profane rants.

Random style that happens to be dark, that is probably far away from the truth. No inside knowledge.

Still can't find any Curmudgeon. Went to my store in Athens Ohio and they were getting in more Barrel Runner!

Ugh Founders needs to get on the ball with these releases.
