The phrase "jumped the shark" jumped the shark about 10 years ago.

The only beer more expensive than Captain's Daughter in that format is G-Bot, which is why I haven't had it in years. Actually, I haven't had either in years for pricing reasons. I take that back, I'll have them on draft when they're priced fairly and G-Bot growler price at the brewery is actually pretty good...

Your trolling jumped the shark long ago.

My apologies to everyone else for going off-topic with a non-controversial statement.

I equate the $ I spend on the 4x16oz tallboys similar to "I'm getting a growler". Around here growlers can be 10-15 bucks+. But agreed, I'd pick up a new 6er vs a new 4pack any day of the week.

I blame Heady Topper for this, they came out in talls and now every IPA north of New York is in tall boy cans, I mean I'm still buying them but it's ridiculous!

Hill Farmstead rolling with 6 packs. (Of course they're $20) Damned either way!

Still - $20 for a 6 pack from a tried and true stellar brewery is more palletable (sic) than a $20 4 pack from the latest brewery to jump on the haze train

Erroneous! If he said, strap me into a flavorless lager in a red, white and blue can that I can drink 30 of throughout the day then yes.

    Most likely unpopular opinions:

    - I’ll take a well made lager style over any ale style everyday. Yeah, I’m even referring to you, NE IPAs

    - Code dating has become the most important factor in beer purchasing. There are way too many packages out there these days, sticking the consumer with a lot of stale beer if they aren’t educated

    - Aging any style other than those with a brett character doesn’t make the beer better. It’s just different, and not always in a better way.

    - Drink what you like, not what you are shamed into believing is acceptable

    - Every tasting opinion/rating is subjective. Stop telling others that their perception is wrong.

    - Independent beer is not necessarily better beer.

So true. This even applies to wine. I think people just like the process and mystery that comes with the tradition.

This isn’t anything that’s beer-type or beer-industry specific, but it does have to do with beer and controversy.

I really can’t get past the awful, unfortunate, and disrespectful timing of HF announcing the release of Florence today. Towns near me are suffering greatly, with the worst yet to come in rising river flood waters, there is civil unrest, several casualties, and many families displaced.

Usually I can get down with some un-timely humor, but damn! Either offer an apology, or remove the posting and delay the release a week. Or offer to give back!

Chefs in NYC are even gathering with southern chefs to help fundraise.

I think what hurts the most is S.Hill just being like “oh sorry, planned for months” and people on the post commenting about how “perfect” the timing is.

This has been eating away at me for a few hours now and I just had to type out my thoughts as the rain still pours down here and I count my blessings of not having any damage and my family and friends being safe.

Im sure I’m just hyped up on emotion and that many will just think I need to relax. Eh, maybe so, oh well.

(If this belongs in a different thread then my bad, please direct it there!)

I live in Argentina, so I don't see this often. 5 minutes ago I saw a Hill Farmstead Instagram post about a special release (Florence I think) and the requirements to get a bottle and can't stop thinking what a ridiculous thing all that 'special release' circus is. All of it: producing limited amounts when they could produce more or more often, special requirements, standing in line, urine and blood tests to get a bottle, you name it...bloody awful system.

Firstly - thoughts are with all the people affected by the storm. And I hope you and your family and friends are doing ok. I have a cousin down there I’ve yet to hear from, so I completely understand.

That said - I’m afraid I’m on the “need to relax” side of things. If a brewery had a yet-to-be-named imperial stout aging in barrels and decided to announce the release of “Hurricane Florence” next week then yes that would be f’ing stupid/disrespectful, and deserve plenty of blowback.

But HF Florence has had many releases/iterations over the year - it’s as close to a staple as it gets at HF for the style. And I think the brewery itself has a strong reputation for being run by / employing generally very thoughtful people. Could they have thought more carefully and covered all bases, and decided to delay the release - yeah maybe. But I think that’s more a function of a business doing a full 360 CYA in the age of the internet (where there is hyper-sensitivity and the possibility for reputational damage over many unforeseen things), rather than a function of right and wrong.

As a general point about current beer culture - I totally agree. Again though, without trying to sound like a HF fanboy, I think you’re wrong about the specific example. The “requirements” are that you have an ID that matches your credit card, and that you don’t buy more than 4 bottles. It’s purely designed to stop selfish folk / resellers going and buying up the whole stock. HF have always tried to do their best between keeping their fans in the loop while mitigating release shitshows.
