OK, so since you weighted in again so will I.

I am not one of the people that criticized people who stand in line. I've stood in my share of lines. Yes, the comradery in a beer line can be fun. Although I will admit, my tolerance of this these days is about an hour. I just don't have the time..

I also think most of us here have enjoyed our share of rare beer. And those of us that have been doing this for a long time know, we eventually get a pour of almost everything that we are really interested in . But we also realize that we live in a world of great beer, so missing out on one rare beer, doesn't make us lose any sleep.

We also realize, that rare does not mean the beer is excellent, nor does a World Class Trade value mean a World Class Beer. Nor does easily accessible mean not a World Class Beer. Rare and Great are independent scales, even if there is a large intersection. I think much of the negative reaction on this thread has to due with the hype verses the beer. Primarily because we have all seen it before. Not to say the hyped beer isn't good, but we can often find an underhyped beer that is just as good if not better. Personally for me, the real gems are the great beers that no one knows about yet.

I suppose what I find the most entertaining in this thread for me is the argument: "Faha is over hyped" , No "Faha is a great beer", and nobody willing to give any ground.

What if both sides are both right.

 

Both sides are right, but no one suggested it wasn't hyped up. People did, however, suggest that the beer couldn't possibly be "that" good, whatever that means.

 

Agree with everything you said. Though someone that hasn't tried the beer is not in a place where they can call something overhyped.

I dont think this is accurate. The beer is overhyped because regardless of how good it is the hype is beyond what that level deserves. Having had stuff from KBBS and SR 71to Marshmallow Handjee and Monster Tones means that some of us understand how good a stout can be. Even IF FAHA is at the absolute peaks of the beer world it is overhyped.

LOL - right, people fly to Decorah on a drop of a hat for SR, spending hundreds upon hundreds to *maybe* break even if they flip at maxxx profitzzzz... and this was way overhyped? Gotcha...

I don't even know what this is attempting to say. If Faha is the best beer in the world it's still overhyped? What does that even mean? Faha hype isn't higher than most of the beers you listed.

There is no logic in the world that will give someone justification to pass judgement on something they've never had.

 

Ha! You know it! Also I wish that were the crappiest beer I had. I spend far too much money on vintage and one-off lambic. I'm just glad I am not married, only rent a house, and have no children aside from my dog. So plenty of disposable income.

That whole OpenBeerDays trip, yeah...that was done with only a month's notice.
