For some reason I was thinking BA moloko and BA Behemoth were at $35 a bottle. I also thought DL variants were the same. I must be misremembering.

I think those were 40 a pop and rue d’ floyd was 30. Different sized bottles though.

Then I guess I am just having a bad day and need a beer.

The first releases of BA Moloko were definitely in the $30-35 range. And I'm almost 100% positive that outside of BADLs, Murda'd Out was the first BA offering that was $50.

I remember when BA Moloko was infected getting the refund gift card and coulda sworn it was $35. Man, $50 for a 750 of beer, we are all crazy. Wakefield is for part of the pastriarchy front.

That’s a better deal than Dark Lord Day, and I would do it if it were closer. If fff did $200 ticket with 3 regulars and 3 variants, they could even keep the lanyard.

I was going to make a bit of a joke, but going the more direct route:

Ba darkness tastes barely BA to me. It's what, 1-3 mo aged? Makes me wonder how much flavor their variants will have.

(Disclaimer: I have never had the pleasure of trying a variant from fff, so I have nothing to compare.)

On a regular scale regular Darkness > Dark Lord.

Comparing variants is a slippery slope. It depends what you get. Hypothetically, is a Hanjee more valuable than 3 Darkness variants? Is it better?

Yes, and absolutely yes. Comparing even the worst rated Handjee to any BA Darkness would be a joke to me. You couldn’t offer me enough BA Darkness and/or variants where I would take you up on that offer. But yes, it is preference based.

... But if we are talking about Teachable Moments (or other perceived bad DL variants) vs 3 Darkness variants, that may be a different arguement altogether.

The range of quality and trade ‘value’ for DL variants can be quite large, I completely agree.

Regular dark lord has value due to scarcity and difficulty of acquisition. Being forced to purchase 3 darkness bottles to get a crack at variants...? I like darkness, but it’s not hard to pick up one darkness and one BA darkness for ~$50. Just seems weird to me. Would have made more sense several years ago, when yields were lower....

I’ve never had BA DL. I got the rye barrel this year, basically BA DL, but haven’t cracked yet. 2015 Darkness when they barrel aged all bottles was magical. I can’t exactly remember what accolades it won, but I want to say it was awarded best in category at Great Taste. I’ve had it a couple times and it had been head and shoulders above all other BA Darkness IMO.

(As I sip on a 2012 DL, it just felt right and yes age helps DL)

Yes 2015 BA Darkness was very good, not sure why it was so much better than the other years I've had. Would be interested to know, although, 2015 Darkness was also my favorite non-BA version as well.

Is BA Darkness like the dark lord variants, where the barrel aged variant is the base from the year before?

I'm surprised you haven't gotten a response yet, there are others that will be able to address it better than me, but I think BA Darkness in the past has always been the same year's vintage, which is one of the complaints about it--short aging period and very little barrel presence, especially the last couple batches, at least for me.
