Are you saying we did not march through head-high drifts, even in July, with no gravitational relief?

If so: please remove thyself from our grassy expanses in a prompt and timely manner young gentleman.

    Good day!

Not yet. Some workplace chicanery has made this a weird month. Plus, for much of this past week I was still in recovery mode after the fest out at Avista Stadium last weekend.

I've only been once so far. I'd call them odd, but good. The beers seem to be made to showcase the grains used in their malt bill. Each beer is named after that dominant grain, plus whatever hop they decide to use in that particular batch. All were light (nothing above 4% abv), but flavorful on the day I visited. I had a light toasted cheese sandwich that was probably the freshest, healthiest thing I ate that week, but didn't have the scratch to take home any loaves. Their sign said crowlers are $12, BTW.

You don't have to rush to do it, but since Alespike is in the closing process, it's safe to remove them. didn't think to ask if they were gonna do crowlers at their new brewery.

Friends went to Winthrop last weekend, and brought me back a crowler from Old Schoolhouse. It's even one of those fancy "resealable" ones with a twist cap.

I am hitting said crowler right now, and I'm not sure I'm seeing any real advantage to having a twist off top. I don't think I would ever cap it for a later date, not sure it would hold up, and I'm guessing they're probably more expensive. Shrug.

Is there really any reason to travel with a growler to Portland, given the proliferation of places that now fill crowlers? One last fill at PDX to take on the plane, perhaps? I have a travel-stable growler, so it's not a packing issue any longer.

Times I've brought it along I didn't use it, and times I didn't bring it I thought I should have, so there's that as well.

    @66jzmstr

Would you mind starting up a new Crowler thread, and maybe updating it quarterly? I found out that the reason this thread was closed down last month, is that it was started by a retired account, and the title refers to 2016 and 2017. If you need any help, just let me know, and I'll do what I can to help out.

    Thanks!

Tough to answer that. Some breweries still only do growler fills (HOTD and Ruse for example), so that might be a reason to bring one? I know what you mean though. I've got a half dozen growlers at home, and I can't recall the last time I filled one. It's a bit more expensive to just keep on filling crowlers (as opposed to a growler), but it's not such a big savings that I've been doing much of it (getting a growler fill).

To be honest, I was going to post something in the NW forum, asking if there's really any point in maintaining this thread anymore. When it was first started back in 2016 (the thread), crowler machines were still something of a novelty. Now they're pretty much everywhere.

I prefer growlers, especially the 64oz ones, when I'm having people over. I always have a couple in the boot That way, there are reasonably sized pours for everyone , with the possibility of seconds. Oh, and growlers are better for the environment than crowlers

At the risk of summoning @cavedave , there are arguments to be made for both sides. For me, who mostly walks or uses public transport, I ain't gonna carry even a mini-growler around all the time, so the occasional crowler purchase is inevitable.

They are pretty ubiquitous now - at the very least in comparison to how things were a couple years ago, so if we let this pass into the sunset, I won't shed a tear.

Now that crowler machines are everywhere I'd LOVE to see more places offer counter-pressure fills!

Most places around here do a CO2 purge, and for a container that's going to be opened within hours, days at the most, that's more than enough.

Wow. We are living in the dark ages over here. I'm lucky to find places using a tube attached to the tap... I always cringe when I see a fill direct from the tap.

Bastion Brewing east of Anacortes has 16 oz crowlers.

Thanks for doing this-- would the moderators be able to delete all the old versions of The List and make the current update sticky as the first post? A lot of scrolling to get to it.

Maybe we need a thread about who DOESN'T have crowlers, like Perry Street in my neck of the woods, for example.
