Apologies for the typo. GNB and OH will have 10 taps each and Cloudwater will have 8.

Depending on what to go options are available, I will be stopping by tomorrow after landing in PDX before heading out to Bandon for some golf. Is there is an up to date list of the to-go options available anywhere other than just the Friday Tweets/IG posts? I didn't see anything on the website.

I don't believe so. Your best bet it to simply call the brewpub on Alberta to see what's currently available, when you land at PDX. Often times they have left over cans not just from the past Saturday, but from the previous Saturday release as well. Increasingly, they also seem to have crowlers available to go as well.

At one time the website taplist/beer menu used to indicate if there were any crowlers available to go, but it's been over a year now since I can last recall seeing that.

I don't think so but I saw elsewhere that they still have Guava Mochi and Mandela cans.

Thanks for the responses guys! I will just give a call when I land. A couple of the guys coming on the golf trip are big IPA fans and were hoping to get Ripe or JB, but beggars can't be choosers :grin:

    This week's Friday update:

    Happy 3 Notion Friyays, Y’all!

    1. Blueberry Pancakes: Make our customers’ favorite cuve'e at home this weekend! We will be selling cans of both Double Stack and Blueberry Muffin tomorrow, 9-15-18 at 2444 NW 28th Ave starting at 12 noon. Double Stack is $22/4-pack and Blueberry Muffin is $20/4-pack. Allocations TBD at time of sale. More info on our website under About/Releases. You decide yourself on your fave Blueberry Pancakes ratio, but many of us at GNB prefer a 75% DS to 25% BBM blend!
    2. Beers @ Alberta: Our Pandan IPA is on tap right now and tasting hella delicious, as well as 4 sours, 3 single IPAs, 2 DIPAs, 4-5 fruit beers and Double Stack going back on tap very shortly. Coming up next week we will be tapping a new tart DIPA collaborated with RAR Brewing that has passion fruit and guava in it. We also will be tapping Lemon Meringue Pie and Lychee Mochi!
    3. Events:
      1. Sorry, but the Beer O’Clock event with Other Half and Cloudwater has been pushed back to next Friday the 21st due to a delay in transit :slight_frown:.
      2. As for Colorado, we look forward to seeing everyone at GABF in Denver next week!
      3. October Events TBD but look for events @ Alvarado St. in Monterey mid-month and in LA at Mikkeler LA mid-month as well.
    Thank you everyone!!!

Outside of the opening can release at Great Notion's new location, this had to be the biggest release since they started canning? What a combo indeed!

The line was freaking insane, as was the overall atmosphere. On the flip side, there were enough "MULES" to make a farmer blush. Just ridiculous!

Just curious... Did they sell out of both beers? What were the purchase limits?

this has to be mostly mules and traders right??? Each of these beers are good, but no way in hell i would ever stand in line for them

If you live here in PDX, why would you even need to? Unless you were picking some cans up for a friend or trading partner, Double Stack is almost always on tap at the brewpub now. I don't see Blueberry muffin on tap quite as often, but even so, it's on often enough that I don't feel as if I ever have to stand in line to obtain any.

I guess what surprised me, is that there's still so much demand for these beers on the trading forums (I'm assuming that anyone who is willing to stand in line for a couple of hours to pick up cans of DS and BM, is only doing so because they have a big trade planned that they want to anchor with some Great Notion goodies). I think this is the second or third can release of DS since GN started their Saturday can releases, so it's not as if the beer is really all that scarce or limited any more. So I'm surprised there's still so much pent up demand for these beers.

Because they're great beers, as I've said since I had my first beer from them. The product speaks for itself and drives the hype. The product, not anyone or anything else, but the product.

That's a nice little fantasy. They may well be excellent, but perceived quality is not the only force at play.

My take as well. I don't disagree with @ElijahSF's assessment of the two beers, but as has been stated before, there are a LOT of great beers made in the PDX area, and you don't see huge herds of mules lining up to get cans of their beer.

Whatever GN pays you, they should double it.

    kidding.

but seriously, these are beers that are on tap all the time (or fairly frequently) and I will submit that they are very good (you can roll with great) but not anything that made me think "holy shit this is AMAZING". I've had both many times and to hear that there were insane lines to purchase cans just didnt add up, unless there were a lot of traders or mules

My take as well, but he obviously feels otherwise, and I'm not one to quibble with someone else's perception of how good a beer is. I disagree only with his perception that the beer is so obviously outstanding, that EVERYONE should feel the same way he does about the beer.

Doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm happy for Great Notion that those two beers are so popular, and that there seems to be significant national demand for their beer. I guess it really doesn't matter if I "don't get it." :sunglasses:

The line wasn't really that long at all, I can't imagine it was longer than the first 2 can releases.

It's particularly their hazy beers, they're ahead and have been ahead of many if not all of the breweries in the PNW when it comes to that style of beer.

Obviously a lot of people think the same way I do when it comes to their beers hence the demand and lines

Dang, sorry @John_M for late response. I was able to grab two 4-packs of each. I seen people with cases of the beer. I couldn't tell if it was a mixed pack of the two releases, or an entire case of one of the releases. I didn't hear or notice the allotment announcement.

As far as the lines, I've only been to the first release at new location (NW) and this one. Most of my visits were always at the Alberta location picking up crowler releases with virtually no lines at opening time. IMO, the lines for this release (Blueberry Muffin/Double Stack) appeared similar to grand opening. Then again, I could be totally off.

A few California people I talked to were emphatic that Great Notion is the most valuable brewery on the West Coast/PNW besides Monkish (Los Angeles) for trade purposes. I'm trying to figure out how they make their money considering the travel time, gas, lodging etc traveling up from California.

As always, there were people picking up beer and openly communicating they had zero interest in drinking them.

To be honest, the double stack is just a little too sweet IMO. Like others have said, everyone's opinion/taste buds differ greatly. The extra cans will be shared with family and friends. It's funny because two female family member's and co-workers can't seem to get enough of Double Stack.

Perhaps they're not in it to make money or aren't making any money, but instead feel the beers are so good they want to share them with others who they think will feel the same. That's why I send beers to other people I know, certainly not to make money.
