I was thinking of taking a B-day trip up to Moksa and Moonraker next month but I live in Oakland and would much rather spend the night out in the Rocklin or Auburn area instead of driving straight back since it's about 5 hrs round trip. But having passed through those areas before I must say it seems pretty dead and desolate. Does anybody know if there's any kind of fun town, nice hotels or night life/bars anywhere around there?? The closest I can think of is Nevada city or Grass valley and that's a bit of a ways farther North than I wanted to go. Any input is welcome. Thanks.
Old Town Roseville is kinda cool ... and in that location, Old Town Pizza always has an incredible tap list, check Untappd as they always update their tap list there
Roseville has lots of mid range hotels. 2nd the downtown Roseville suggestion,. Also, Final Gravity is a great taphouse/bottle shop.
The only nightlife in Rocklin is at Moksa...lol... Nothing else other than Brass Tap or Craft Beer Vault. Old Town Roseville is your best bet for any kind of younger bars/clubs in the area. But that would only be on Fri or Sat. Old Town Pizza has the best beer selection, but more of a family place (lots of kids). http://www.otpizza.net/roseville-beer/ Final Gravity is a 21 and up tap room, very chill though, not a club. http://finalgravitybeer.com/roseville-tap-list/ Only mid range hotels in Roseville/Rocklin/Auburn. You would have to stay in Sacramento if you want any $$ high rise hotels. Most visiting NBA teams stay at the Hyatt downtown.
Everything is in Sacramento honestly. Like others said, Final Gravity and Old Town Pizza in Roseville/Rocklin. Then you can hit up Top Golf in Roseville but the nightlife is in Sacramento.
Thanks for all the replies everyone! So since i'll probably be staying in Sac, where should I go to eat and drink there?? (Sorry for the newbie questions, we don't make it out of the East Bay much)
Really depends what you're after. Urban Roots has BBQ and decent beer selection. When concerned with just food I've been particularly hooked on the fried chicken at South. You staying downtown?
Sacramento is a pretty big city now...almost 500,000 people.... 1.4 million in the Metro area.... You may have to narrow down your location and what you want a little bit....lol..... There are a few thousand restaurants in Sacramento. 70 breweries in the area. So like Marco G mentioned, what type of food/drink are you looking for? Are you downtown? East sac? South Sac? ect.....
Not sure where we're staying yet, still putting the plan together. But just by looking at Google maps, I know I want to check out New Glory and Device along with Moksa, and possibly the new Fieldwork. Most likely will want to stay in a nice hotel downtown. Food-wise I'm into anything that's good so i'll check out the fried chicken at South. There's a place called Bacon & Butter that caught my eye as well.
Citizen Hotel is solid option and easily walkable to Fieldwork, Capitol Hop Shop (gastropub), or Sauced (BBQ with solid tap list).
Bacon & Butter is a good one also, wait can be pretty long tho for breakfast so be prepared. But it is worth it. If you're out by New Glory & Device, Capitol Beer & Taproom isn't too far away. They have a good selection on tap and bottles/cans to go. No food besides pretzels & jerky but you can bring outside food.
