I don't think Curmudgeon is being released this year. There might be some old stock lingering about.

They've been advertising Curmudgeon Better Half on Facebook as their latest barrel aged series? Am I mistaken?

You are correct about better half. The base beer Curmudgeon is the beer that is MIA this year.

Yea Better Half is not available anywhere that I've looked. They're really dropping the ball on these dates IMO.

In the past when have the other BA offerings entered your area compared to the national release day?

I buy in SE Ohio primarily, and it's been like 1 or 2 weeks maybe at the latest for stuff like KBS and CBS. They were loading tons of Barrel Runner up on the shelves today at the store I went to. Barrel Runner is out of date. They must have overproduced it.

We normally get it about the same time frame, and it arrived 1 week ago.

Have you inquired about when they will get it?

More likely your distributors and retailers need to get on the ball.

Saw a bunch at the grocery store the other day, along with a bunch of Barrel Runner and maybe even some Dankwood.

Which begs the question, do you think Founders has realized that most beer enthusiasts don't want barrel-aged DIPA's?

Based on some of their Instagram posts, they have a sense of humor about it...but they clearly like making them, so I'd expect more in 2019.

Just bottle the BA Imperial Stout in 2019 and all will be forgiven.

I may have vomited a littl but of my coffee just now.

That's a better wake up than a cup of coffee.

NEW BEER RELEASE: BARREL-AGED SERIES #6
Posted on September 21, 2018 by Founders Brewing Co.

Well, Cadre, we’re happy to announce the final release in our 2018 Barrel-Aged Series:

To those of you who received our hint – thanks so much for helping get the word out. You’ve all shared your hint(postcard) of the label artwork enough to unlock the first reward. If you have no idea what we’re talking about, check out all the #FoundersBarrelAgedSeries posts on Instagram and Twitter.

Continue sharing those postcards and having your friends guess. Once we see 800 shares we’ll let you all help in choosing a beer. If we see 1500 shares we may just ask a couple of you to help us brew KBS! Now, let’s get to what you’re really here for:

Announcing the sixth and final release in the 2018 Barrel-Aged Series!

    CBS

CBS was born when we stumbled upon some bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup. We opted to put the same base beer as KBS, an imperialized version of Breakfast Stout, in the maple barrels and, after one taste, we knew we had something special. Rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate meld together in what can only be described as a transcendental drinking experience.

You might notice that the label is missing a key, iconic element. You know, starts with “M” ends with “ountie.” It’s true – we did make the decision to remove the Mountie from CBS packaging.

CBS will be available everywhere, including both of our taprooms, on draft and in 750mL bottles beginning on November 2. It will have a suggested retail price of $24.99 a bottle.

Similar to our annual release of KBS, CBS will be released via an online ticket sale. More info coming in the public announcement!

CBS is the sixth and final release in our 2018 Barrel-Aged Series, preceded by KBS, Backwoods Bastard, Dankwood, Barrel Runner and Curmudgeon’s Better Half.

This information was shared with you, our Cadre members, first. Look for more details about the beer on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram closer to the release.

I'm looking forward to CBS, despite so many cries to the contrary. It's a good barrel aged stout, and I like barrel aged stouts. I'll be interested to see if it's consistent with last year's batch.

I'm still getting my arms around living in a world where people complain about CBS being released 2 years in a row. I shouldn't be surprised, though.

I am officially done with Founders. How out of touch can a company be? CBS last year was exciting, and then they made so much that it is still sitting on shelves all over the country. So what do they do? Make it again. I live 10 minutes from the brewery and I have no interest in going there again. They lack anything that can be suggested as creative and refuse to try anything new in the stout realm. Nobody wants your bullcrap barrel aged IPAs, malt liquors, fruit beers, etc. For the love of the beer gods, develop a new stout and barrel age that.

I'm not sure how my post (present or past in this thread) came off, but I'm not dissapointed because "CBS isn't good enough," I just would like to try something different is all. I've never had the opportunity to try the Black Biscuit that people mentioned. Since we got CBS last year, and KBS+Great maple syrup is close, I could live without some CBS and would have preferred trying Black Biscuit.

They build this barrel series up as something new, creative. What has it given the consumers? Barrel aged IPAs, and BA repeats. They refused to listen to consumers and put CBS in 12oz bottles, instead it's an overprice bomber....again. They can go somewhere...

Removing the CBS label's Mountie is just the latest in the ongoing feud between America and our neighbors to the north that began with Canada razing the White House 200+ years ago.

Woah, never thought I'd never see the day where people would get pissy about CBS being re-released and readily available. But here we are...
