Pass. What an overrated garbage beer, and their consecutive year of charging $25 a pop, I hope they end up as shelf turds. Fool me once shame on me (and boy was I shamed).

Uhhhh...you guys do realize that this is the same Founders that moves 15-packs of All-Day by the pallet, right? I have no idea how much $$ they have invested in the BA series or what they expect CBS to contribute to the bottom line, but the numbers in this article (34% growth from 2016-2017, All-Day comprising 62% of overall production) suggest that (a) they're attending to their most dedicated customers, and (b) they are definitely not hurting for money:

Maybe if they are unable to milk the American market again this year, they'll release it at a more reasonable price point next year.

It's a very good beer, but the price point is completely insane.

Initially when I heard Founder's was introducing a Barrel Series my first thought was that they'd be experimenting with carious adjuncts in their stouts (similar to the types of stouts Prairie puts out).

CBS is great, dont get me wrong. But on a whole, the Barrel Series has been more of a let down then a winning concept.

KBS, CBS, Backwoods & Better Half were beers we already knew were great. All the other Barrel Series beers have been C+'s at best.

I think I will hold off this go around, still have some left from last year. I liked it but was not blown away so unless I see a good deal on it I will just hold off.

I passed last year on a bottle because the price. I got a small draft pour and really liked it. But again with the 750s and the cost it’s hard for me to get that excited. I might pull the trigger this year though.

I guess when this hits at $25 and sits around the retail sellers will stop ordering it?

I don’t see any other way Founders loses. Once it hits wholesalers the cash is in Founders pocket already.

Sounds like a good amount of bottles are still sitting from last release. Could retailers lower their orders forcing wholesalers to order less?

I’m out either way unless I find a bottle mismarked for $5.

    Enjoy

While that's certainly the case with KBS (at least where I live), I hadn't heard that about CBS. I read about some areas where sales of CBS were pretty slow (there were a few places here in Portland that still had CBS on the shelf a month or so after the release), but I just assumed that by now the market had absorbed any remaining bottles out on the shelf. Not so?

Seems like for once Europeans were spoiled. We got it in some countries - online or on the shelves for 8,50€ ($9+)the 12oz single bottle. Very pricey but very good too.

I’d totally pass if living in the US and paying $30 for a 750. Just nope.

I dunno - I’m all for occasionally hurting my wallet for quality stuff but that’s steep, really.

I enjoyed CBS when I had it on tap last year, but considering the price and the format, I will probably just grab another four pack of 16oz cans of the superior Evil Twin Even More Coco Jesus, which is also several dollars cheaper.

CBS shelf-turded a bit around here: got some on draft 2 weeks or so after release and saw a couple bottles in stores (at$30, I passed) in the end of April. I'll probably pick up a bottle or two if it does that again, but I won't be seeking it out.

Good luck. I would guess that the number of bottles still sitting on shelves is actually a very small percentage of those released.

If I end up getting one it would also be a Christmas present to myself. I just don't know if I can justify the purchase when I will be able to get a 12-pack of Xocoveza for the same price. In 2017 I didn't mind spending the money because it was my first time with the beer and I really wanted to try it. With Founders new barrel aging setup have a feeling we will be seeing more CBS in the future so the purchase doesn't seem quite as urgent as it did last year.

Don’t know about other areas but here in NorCal they’re still on the shelf at major supermarket chains for $18.99. I don’t like the saccharine sweetness to this beer. If that got toned down it could be good.

At that price I'd load up on them. They were gone here within a few hours at $25+ each, though I presume we got fewer of them. I think I got about 5% of the distribution...

Never again. I had to hunt all over town and struck out. My go-to distributor finally got a case after the main rush and charged me over $30 for a single bomber. I would much rather spend the money on more Backwoods Bastard, which I just had the other night and it is still unbelievably good (June 2018 bottling). Also, around here the Bourbon County is shelf turding at $12 per bottle. I just picked up a 4 pack of Curmudgeon's better half for $18, which is quite nice. Basically, there is no way in hell I am spending that kind of money again for CBS.

You would think not having to pay the Canadian Mountie royalties that the price of the bottle would drop

 You do know that it's a 12+% ABV dark beer that's been bourbon barrel-aged, right? It's not an IPA, Lager or Hefeweizen. And even some of those don't go bad in 4 months.

The 2017 version is still available in a place or two in my market, and was, in my experience, an overwhelming sweet mess of clashing flavors.

Founder’s barrel aged beers have been a very mixed bag in my experience. Many (CBS, Barrel Runner, Doom, the fruit beer) have bold flavors that don’t come work for me. At the same time,
KBS and BWB are genuinely delicious.
