@ElijahSF I totally agree this occurs with some of the visitors to Great Notion and many other brewery's. Not gonna lie, I've driven distances some might consider crazy for the sole purpose of picking up can & bottles with no intention of trading or selling.

Now I try to justify making the trek to brewery's by visiting other non-beer related venues as part of the trip. One place in particular; Revision Brewery was a place I simply had a difficult time justifying the trip (didn't do it). Besides, I sometimes see their cans around Portland.

This is definitely how I operate. I dragged my wife to a bunch of places en route to Bandon last week just to grab some good beers for a buddy's 40th birthday celebration, including Great Notion. In fact one of the reasons I had us fly into Portland instead of Coos Bay was just to hit up spots in Portland and Eugene (it was also much cheaper for flights, but I seriously spent the savings in expensive beer for everyone lol)

    This week's Friday Update:

Happy Friday Y'all! There's some big parties popping off everywhere this weekend from GABF in Denver to Hoof Hearted's Dragon Saddle Day in Ohio to tons of small First Day of Autumn festivals nationwide! It's that cool air, leaves-changing pumpkin-spice vibe! Let's get into a few good notions:

    1. Can Release: This Saturday, 9-22-18 at 12 noon at 2444 NW 28th, we will be dropping 2 delicious libations for y’all! Look out for Mango Coconut Mochi and Puppy Love in 16 oz cans! Both beers were loved by local beer drinkers at Alberta this summer so we decided to can them up. Puppy Love is a sessionable, highly quaffable hazy IPA loaded with a blend of both NW and Southern Hemisphere hops. Mango and Coconut Mochi on the other hand is our first vegan-friendly mochi beer in the series. It still has the same creamy mouthfeel but with no milk sugar, just tons and tons of delicious mango, coconut and hops. It will remind you of a tropical ice cream delight or maybe the Thai dessert, mango and sticky rice! We also have a sick new Mochi beer label character, the illusive Japanese Tanuki (you might remember Mario in Super Mario 3 could put that flying raccoon suit on..well, it was a tanuki / tanooki).

    1. Events in the next few weeks:
      1. Portland Area:
        1. Right now, this very second I am sending this out @ Beer O’Clock in downtown Portland (all day Friday, 9-21-18) you can drink 10 GNB beers, 10 Other Half beers and 8 Cloudwater beers!
        2. Hood River, Sat Oct 6th is Kriekfest! This is a rad festival thrown by our good friend Brian Yaeger focused on barrel-aged cherry Kriek beers. Tickets here: http://www.kriekfest.com/
        3. FH Steinbarts 100 year anniversary! America’s oldest homebrew store, FH Steinbarts, will be celebrating 100 years in business on Oct 27th with a cool beer festival. You might remember we partnered with them on a dope hazy IPA homebrew kit, still available on their website. https://fhsteinbart.com/
      2. Washington DC: Snallygaster - Blue Jacket and friends’ festival in Washington DC on Oct 13th: https://www.snallygasterdc.com/
      3. Los Angeles: Mikkeller DTLA tap takeover on Sunday Oct 14th, plus beers at Little Joy and Khong Ten LA
      4. Monterey: After a collabo day, we will be having a tap takeover at our good friends’ Alvarado St’s Taphouse
      5. Chicago: Half-Acre Far & Away Fest on October 13th in downtown Chicago, https://www.halfacrefarandaway.com/
      6. Seattle: Teku Tavern anniversary on Oct.18th
      7. Sacramento area: Steve’s pizza for Todd’s Bday. Pls hit them up for more info!
New Draft: We had some delays on our new new (yes, I meant to type that 2x) Mochi beers, but this coming week look out for Lemon Meringue & Lychee Mochi, as well as a new Brut IPA w/ white wine must and Nelson Sauvin hops. Top secret, but on the DL, we also brewed our first ever lager, which should be out in late October!

Coming in from out of town tomorrow and my flight lands at 1PM or so...

Let's say I was a crazy person and decided to head straight to GN NW from the plane in our rental car. Would I likely be too late if I got there at 2 or so? I'm guessing the Double Stack / Blueberry Muffin release was as hypey as they get, how long did they stay open that day?

I'd love to get some Wiggle but may just opt to wait until the weekday to pick it up on Alberta if there's a good chance it won't sell out.

Thanks in advance for any advice, cheers!

It would probably be best to call GN about the availability of left over cans from the Saturday releases, but my impression is that there are now almost always left over cans from Saturday. For some releases, left over cans have been available for more than a week at the Alberta pub. For others, the left over cans have sold out within a few hours after the pub opened on Monday.

Otherwise, I'm in complete agreement with @ChugChugPass. If you get over to the Westside facility at 2 or so, it's almost certain that they will have already shut down by then.

    This week's Friday update:

    3 Notions comin’ at ya:

    1. Saturday 9-29-18 Can Release: Wiggle it, just a little bit. Come on out and try this insanely delicious hazy IPA we call WIGGLE! It’s a double dry-hopped haze from heaven loaded with over 6 lbs per bbl of Nelson, Citra and Simcoe. We also have some more Mango Coconut Mochi and Puppy Love for sale as well. Can Sale @ 2444 NW 28th Ave Sat 9-29 at 12 noon. More info on our releases at our website under About / Releases. $18/4-pack for Wiggle and Puppy Love, $20/4-pack for Mango Coco.
    2. Food Specials @ Alberta: We have been playing a lot with a new Blueberry Muffin BBQ sauce and it’s tasting soooooo bangers! This weekend we will have a few killer specials:
      1. Blueberry Muffin BBQ Bacon Brie Grilled Cheese - Blueberry Muffin BBQ sauce, thick slabs of melty brie, and pepper bacon on Portland French Bakery Bianco Bread. Served with waffle fries or a simple salad.
      2. Blueberry Muffin BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich - Shredded Pork Shoulder slow-cooked in Blueberry Muffin BBQ sauce piled high on a Grand Central sesame seed brioche bun with lemon aioli and butter lettuce. Served with waffle fries or a simple salad.
      3. Robson’s Indian Stew - A masala-inspired stew with yogurt-marinated chicken thighs, onion, garlic, carrots, and tomatoes. Served over jasmine rice with house-made garlic naan.
New Beers @ Alberta: Bubbly 02 is poppin’ hard!!! Fermented with freshly pressed white wine grapes and dry-hopped with heavy hands of Nelson Sauvin hops. Lychee Mochi on tap this weekend as well, tasting tropically delish. For all the cripsy heads out there that like things so crisp and so clean clean, look out for our very first pilsner dropping on draft at some point Monday called Changing States. Lastly, keep your eyes peeled for a decadent Double Fudge Brownie stout in the near future.

I have a possible beer mule rolling through Portland midday Monday. Are the leftovers from the Saturday can release usually there by noon on Monday?

Depends on the beer of course, but usually yes. I would think your chances would be very good for this particular release.

Is the NW location fully open now? I was just reading thier release info on the website and it makes it seem like it isn't? Also, do they not do releases at the Alberta location? Do they just have the remaining cans brought over there following Sat afternoon? Thanks in advance for any help, I will be in PDX next week.

    It's not open yet.

Nope, Saturdays at the NW facility.

The cans aren't necessarily brought over the same afternoon. I've heard not to expect them showing up in the cooler at Alberta until Monday.

I've also noticed that their beer is stating to show up on tap around town now as well. Beer O'clock had a half dozen or more Great Notion beers for their recent tap takeover, and I think I just saw that Bailey's has 2 or 3 of their beers on tap (since I downloaded the digitalpour app, I'm spending a ridiculous amount of time checking out tap lists around town).

For what it’s worth, my mulitos we’re passing through midday Monday, and I hoped they could pick up cans from the release only two days prior, but they were told those cans wouldn’t be available until about 3 or 4pm. I don’t know if every Monday is like that, but I was only able to get leftovers from the release nine days prior, as they couldn’t stick around hours longer.

When I was down there in August I stopped by the Brewpub around 1pm and they had all the cans from the Saturday sale. Just sounds like they show up whenever the person in charge feels like bringing them over.
