Yeah I think coffee Heavyweight might be my favorite version yet. Boss of Me is actually a really small project, 2 different barrels/batches of Tiniest Giants, one from our small batch system aged over a year, one from the bigger system aged about 6 months. The base beer wasn't my favorite imperial stout we've done, but apparently it was built for barrel aging because it turned out incredibly if I do say so. 11%, big, roasty, chocolate, full bodied stout that does show it's alcohol content in the best way. 500ml bottles. Hope that helps!
Anyone hit anything this past weekend? I didn't, but have my eye on a couple this week. 6 Heist ipa's on tap at Ridgewood today and the Fonta Flora takeover at Tasty on Wednesday for sure.
It is kind of ironic, but it doesn't really make sense for shops to put on the same beers that the breweries in town have on.
Honestly, what missed opportunities? The beer offerings in near Raleigh are average, Raleigh beer week just showcased that fact.
Yes, the beer is average. I won't argue that. Brewery participation (or lack there of) is what's missing. I count at least 8 local breweries that aren't taking part. If you're going to "celebrate the region", go all in. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the organizer's efforts and I'm happy there is a beer week. It's certainly gotten stronger over the last few years.
As one of the organizers, the feedback and discussion is definitely appreciated. The whole premise of RBW is to celebrate the beer culture we have here, not just the local beer. To us, it's about celebrating the places, the people, and the beer that we have available to us from near and far. RBW is open to any bar/restaurant/brewery that wants to participate. There are some costs to participate, but absolutely no $ is made by the organizers. Regarding Raleigh brewery participation, this year Oak & Dagger, Clouds, Crank Arm, Lonerider, Trophy, Bhavana, Little City, Sub Noir and more are all either hosting events or are featured in events, as well as neighbors right down the road like Bond Brothers and Brueprint. Keep the feedback coming as we hope to make Raleigh Beer Week better every year!
A small amount of Coffee Heavyweight goes out this week but Boss of Me will be staying in house at Trophy locations and State of Beer.
