They did. Every member got one and it was $60

I agree with @odcardinal . I'm not trying to rehash, but it is crazy to me that Cory approves of trading in this way. For some reason accepting $3000 of beer or Bourbon is kosher because you did not sell it directly. Even though turning around and selling those nets you the $3000 the same way.

    It's beyond silly.

Jester King and Modern Times (and i'm sure plenty of other breweries) are the same way, they're cool with you trading but will penalize you for selling. I can respect the distinction, swapping and sharing beer with someone across the country is a lot different than turning around and trying to make a profit off somebody else's work

I don't believe trading is selling if done $4$. It's when people start wanting to account that secondary value (that's ironically hated so much) in the mix. That's when you're profiting.

    Pretty much this:

I mean, in that podcast @OakvilleKGB linked, Cory says "hey, if you want to buy some SP and trade it with friends across the country so that they can also enjoy it, that's fine with me. I used to trade too." (Paraphrasing, not actual quote.)

Implicit in what he is saying is something close to either $4$ or bottle4bottle.

What bothers me the most about the OWK thing way more than the shitlording we've talked about before is that you were asked to be into some elite secret society. This isn't even comparative to being in any other membership program. You couldn't enter a raffle, you couldn't ask. So, it's crazy to me that he's OK with someone trading these. It's disrespectful. It's a privilege to be in this society in a rather different way than being a part of other memberships that you just sign up for.

I get the feeling that it's more about him protecting his brand and not wanting others to profit off him more than anything else. What I don't get about the latter, though, is that he'd be OK with someone getting a PVW23 + stuff for the OWK. Even at a MSRP, the person with the OWK is getting a deal - not taking into account anything else. $230ish vs. $60ish.

Seems like way more bottles of D10 being traded than OWK - at least so far. This seems shocking since, although D10 is 2pp compared to 1pp, the rules haven't changed...soooo...can't all these people trading D10 get dicked over if the person they sending it to ends up selling it?

Or Maybe Cory - since he's OK with trading has now agreed to not kick people out who trade their beer to someone that sells it?

    Genuinely curious.

This Side Project club is the most ridiculous beer club I’ve ever seen. First, it’s a super secret group, of which, only the very best beer drinkers in the world were invited to of course. Second, the whole idea that people were “gifted” an OPPORTUNITY to buy OWK at $60 or whatever is a total joke to me. Third, even after paying $60 for the beer, it can’t be sold, but trading may be acceptable with proper approval.

    Ridiculous.

If you can prove you traded it and didn’t sell it, it being sold isn’t your problem.

I don't doubt that you have your facts right, but I could have sworn this was a HUGE issue with the first few releases, including OWK. If not, It's not clear to me why people kept putting "Won't sell" or "will be consumed" or "Must prove you won't sell" in their trading posts (both ISO and FT).

I've seen it in this thread a couple of times, but I have no idea where the "gifting" idea came from, but it certainly wasn't from Side Project.

Because a member themselves did sell Oude Fermier, so that’s why OWK was numbered.

Certain friends of mine have asked Cory what happens if they trade it and it pops up as being sold. If you have proof you traded it, you’re in the clear.

I heard that someone sold an OWK, too. Both of the people caught selling were reportedly booted from the club.

At the end of the day people have the choice (if they were asked) to join or not join. No one is making anyone join if they don't want to. If you agree to join the membership then it would follow that you agree to the rules of said membership, no matter how restrictive or unusual those rules may be relative to other memberships. As someone who went to private school my entire career I understand this concept all too well (albeit not really by choice sometimes, but pretty similar concept).
