    The wine drinker should be fine at Haymaker- I've seen as many people drinking wine there as beer.

    Grimm, now that they have their own place, are making better beer than they used to. The NEIPAs have improved, their pilsner Telos is delicious, and some they are selling some proper sour beers out of the tap room, none of which make it to distribution. A couple new ones coming out this weekend that I have high hopes for -- their Instagram is kept pretty up to date. They also having a chocolate babka stout out right now -- pretty sure you can't find that anywhere else!

    Fool's Gold usually has Hill Farmstead of some sort on tap. Good chance at Suarez as well, but less so as they tend to focus their distribution in Brooklyn. Torst in Brooklyn is another good bet for both. Augurs Well for HF. The Well is another good beer bar in BK that would fit into the Grimm/Interboro/KCBC day that is a good bet to have one or both of HF/Suarez on tap.

    I'll shut up by stating that Beermenus is used widely in NYC and will be your best bet for finding those two breweries.

    Haymaker had a couple wines my dad (who is a recovering oenophile) enjoyed, and they also make good cocktails. KCBC and Grimm will have sour beers you can direct them towards. One Mile House has wine, though I have never had any/been with someone who has, so can't speak to its quality (and will likely have sour beer as well), and they also do cocktails. Fools gold does cocktail/whiskey, but not sure about wine. Ginger Man has wine. Threes also serves wine, if I'm not mistaken.

    @TongoRad @frozyn

    Very much appreciate your help. I'll seriously consider Grimm now. Again, we get some of their sours, but if they are doing more quality work now, I'll try to visit them!

    Torst is the name of the beer bar and beermenus is the website I was recommended before outside of this thread. I couldn't recall either one, so thanks for the refresher.

    @jrnyc @cosmo4u

    Thanks for the good wishes! Very much looking forward to it. Bummed I'm not in race shape, but still eager to visit and see the city. And this way I won't be super stressed to maintain a clean, meticulously diet before the race!

    I have many friends who have run Boston, and most of them who have also done NYC say NYC is their favorite. Makes me eager to get there. I'll have Boston in April. Fingers crossed for a healthy training cycle for that one.

    Cheers!

    I'd have to echo recommendations against Mikkeller. You wouldn't be disappointed, but the 7 train can be a disaster on weekends and could easily take 90 minutes to get to, and it's basically completely by itself, whereas there are other areas (LIC, Bushwick/Williamsburg, Downtown/SW Brooklyn) where you can hit a handful of breweries with minimal travel, and are at most an hour from most parts of Manhattan.

    Does Mikkeller keep a pretty good list of what they have on tap on a website? Do they have a pretty large selection of their Beer Geek series in bottles? I've also heard they generally have a lot of guest taps. Is that true? Asking questions just to get a better feel if its a stop for me or not.

    I wouldn't mind checking the morning of to see if it's worth while for me. Again, Beer Geek Breakfast and I go way back. Any variations on that would be highly sought after from me. That and if I could get some Mikkeller Running Club gear, I'd be stoked, although I could order that online....

    Their website does have a tap list that is generally up to date. They do also host some pretty awesome guest stuff occasionally, so on a right day it could definitely be worth the trip.

    It looks like their list on Beermenus was updated today.

    I would also mention it's a very good idea to check opening hours for places. Was just perusing the Mikkeller page and it's closed Mon/Tues, unless Citi Field has something going on. You'll be better off saving the beer bars for the work week and going to breweries on the weekend.

    Good point.

    I am visiting on the wrong side of the week. Monday/Tuesday may be reserved more for slowly enjoying coffee, seeing sites, and stopping in beer bars as we see them.

    I'll bookmark their beer menu page. I've never seen Flat White on tap! Kinda cool they have Side Project bottles too, although not for that price.

    Thank you!

    Hope you have a great trip, and it looks like you've got enough info already, but I figured I'd point out a few things anyway :wink:. If you're interested in casual yet tasty and interesting food, there are a few great options near where you're staying.

    - Saravanna Bhavan for South Indian, in a neighborhood slangily referred to as Curry Hill. Much more light and delicate type dishes.

    - Xi'an Famous Foods has a branch right there on 23rd St. Killer hand pulled noidles with braised lamb, and other types of Szechuan street food. There's also a branch by Torst, fwiw.

    Anyway, have a great race and enjoy the city!

    Hah! Apparently I've trained my phone well.

    There's also Eisenboig's Sandwich Shop :grin:.

    I think you should go to Mikkeller NYC - 'cause having a sentimental connection is a good enough reason... but in case this matters to you, when you say "I'd like to see them," I want to point out that I would assume that there's not much of a connection between that specific beer and Mikkeller NYC beyond the owner/name of the place. Mikkeller NYC seems to have it's own identity as an extension of the brand. Having said that, I've never been there, but the tap list always looks really fantastic (the current one has me drooling) and it'll easily be out of your way as a destination.

    What's up with the gnocchi? :slight_smile: @augiecarton mentioned eating this when he ran (and he probably has a great resume for restaurant dining), and now you're actively looking for other recommendations? Did I miss something? :grin: If he planted the seed, just go with his suggestion.

    NYC has great beer bars. People will always suggest visiting breweries, but I'm a fan of the bars. I tend to like the old school choices over the beer-geek trendier options, so I'll recommend Ginger Man and Blind Tiger in Manhattan. Using the subway, getting around to different locations in Manhattan is normally not too much trouble. Once you venture into the outer boroughs, things get more complicated and time consuming, but there are certainly worthwhile destinations there if you're on a specific mission.

    You're gonna be busy. :slight_smile:

    That's true on Mikkeller's separate identity. I'll plan my trip over there accordingly. If they have many of the Beer Geek's on tap, I'll make the trip, otherwise I may skip it. I've never been to a Mikkeller bar otherwise, so I think it would be fun.

    I'm not sure what it is about gnocchi. I'm not a fan of spaghetti, and fettuccine alfredo is too heavy as a good pre-race food. Pesto has a good weight, fatty oils, and gnocchi typically goes down real smooth for me. It gets me full without making me feel heavy or lethargic. Eating well is important, but feeling well and confident in your decisions leading up to a race is also important for me.

    There are many NYC breweries I'd like to try, so it would make the most sense just to stop into a handful of beer bars; however, the beer geek in me says I need to visit at least one brewery. LIC looks very interesting, otherwise I'll probably just mark out every location on my map app and then check that anytime we're in a new part of town.

    It'll be a busy trip, but I'm stoked. I think I'll be meeting a couple friends from different eras of life too. It'll be fun to catch up. And it's an excuse to go to another beer bar :wink:

    I had a great visit. Thank you all for the suggestions.

    Haymaker was a great spot to get some grub and beer after the marathon, and I was able to visit Other Half as well. I wasn't able to cram much else in there with the list of things the folks I was traveling with wanted to see and do, but regardless - great trip. Thanks again.
