Looks like the “All About Beer” magazine is no more. https://www.forbes.com/sites/taranurin/2018/10/18/rip-aab/#634cc3a34dc5
I used to enjoy reading All About Beer but I also subscribed to a number of periodicals and eventually stuff started piling up because I didn't have time to read them. So I stopped renewing subscriptions and when my office manager introduced me to this thing called The Internet found a resource I could read anywhere anytime on a laptop. I do subscribe to one magazine though, Beer Advocate.
Sad to see another beer magazine go. It’s been over almost two decades and I’m still mourning Brewing Techniques.
"used to" really says it all. I subscribe to/read two Beer magazines, BA is one of the two. Plus I read a local beer newspaper, that is freely available in virtually all my local breweries. That's pretty much all the bandwidth I have for this topic.
Well, the big thing was that, about 10 years ago, the biggest local magazine distributor decided to cancel the account of the store (an actual newsstand type place) that carried thousands of magazines. I couldn't buy what the store didn't have to sell. Much like the beer industry, the print industry also is at the mercy of overlords.
All About Beer was a very nice publication many years ahead of the general curve and trend of craft beer. I picked this one up at a news stand in Winston-Salem when every issue was printed. I relished the thought of poring through it, sitting there on the passenger seat, as I finished my day of selling such as Spaten, Franziskaner, Red Mountain (from Birmingham), Johnson Brewing Co (from Charlotte), Youngs Oatmeal Stout, Ram Rod Ale, London Special, Kings and Barnes, and a broad host of others from the world. I knew these folks well from the outset. They initiated The World Beer Festival at the old Durham Bulls stadium, two four hour sessions-Noon to Four and an evening session. This was a seminal type of festival event. I had my beefs with some of their practices, but now I give them great credit for being at the fore-front of this modern beer reality. I'll just say that the 22nd annual World Beer Festival was in 2017.
