I will be in San DIego for a conference later this week and weekend, near Gaslamp Quarter. I won't have a car but planning to Uber/Lyft. I know there are a crapton of breweries nearby, planning to go to Stone, Modern Times. Are there any places that I should particularly go to? Trying to stay within 15-20 minutes or so of Gaslamp/downtown area. Thanks!

Around downtown area, I would hit up Resident, HalfDoor, and Bellmarker.

Get the uber/lyft to Liberty Station to hit up Stone, Bottlecraft, and cruise on over to Modern Times in Point Loma. You also might as well uber/lyft from MT to Pizza Port OB.

Edit: And if that isn't enough, then uber/lyft yourself to the North Park area, specifically 30th Street, then walk up and down the street to hit up the satellite tasting rooms and Toronado (don't worry, this one takes credit cards). If you end up on the northern end of 30th near El Cajon Blvd. then I would recommend Blind Lady for pizza and beer, as well as Tiger!Tiger! for even more beer and food.

If you prefer to stay a bit more south (although not by much) then goto South Park Brewing in south park....it is right next to Hamilton's so you can swing in there as well.

This.. pretty much could not be said any better. Miramar is a little ways out but there are 3 solid breweries within a 3 mile stretch and best part of all it's not summer..Enjoy.

AleSmith and Green Flash in the Miramar area are super cool places

Alesmith is always my recommendation, but an uber from downtown to miramar and back can get pricey. I was trying to keep my recommendations within the $10 rideshare price range. But yes...Alesmith, all the way.

Yeah I was thinking about AleSmith too, but it seems kinda far out there, don't know if I'll be to get there

If you end up making it to miramar for Alesmith, be sure to go inside the anvil&stave speakeasy room. There were 10 BA beers on draft in there this past weekend. If you can find an Order of the Anvil member, there should still be at least 1 more on draft. I think the member taps were Big Bender Speedway and '17 Velvet Speedway

The only thing cool about Green Flush may be the space, stay away from their beers, way to many great beers in SD to spend your $$$ on.

    Cheers,

If near AleSmith, there's also Saint Archer.

There's also great food around there, hell, Miramar is great.

AleSmith has an event Friday at 6:30 with food and classic ba beers for a food pairing I'm going to

What @SDReaper said. Not a whole lot to add to this.

Made it to Resident, Bell Marker, Half Door last night. Resident was awesome! Thanks for the recs.
I was thinking about going to Ocean Beach area one day, I know there's Pizza Port there, are the other breweries near there worth going to?

That is far and away my favorite brewery in that neighborhood. Added bonus is the multiple guest taps and bottles. The image quality is a little rough but here's a link to a webcam shot of what they have on: http://cameras.pizzaport.com/oceanbeachtapcam.jpg

The OB camera hasn't been updated since July 9th. I bug them about it all the time but nothing....

Ha, didn't even notice that. Explains why it didn't match at all the last time I was there. Guess I just assumed it was "live"

Bumping this thread as I couldn't seem to find the Visiting San Diego thread that @Xul used to curate. Any updates on the OP question/ response? Won't have time to venture more than 15ish min from Gaslamp. Thx

I stopped curating that thread quite a while ago for a variety of reasons. Roughly speaking, if you're sticking within a 15-minute drive of the Gaslamp, you've got four major choices:
    1) Modern Times Lomaland + Pizza Port Ocean Beach - Good two-stop evening if you don't mind taking an Uber/Lyft. You can also work a stop at Liberty Station into the evening for Bottlecraft Liberty Station and/or some food from the public market.
    2) North Park - You can either jump on the route 2 bus from downtown or just grab an Uber/Lyft. There are tons of choices up that way, but I'd put North Park Beer Co, Bottlecraft NP, Rip Current, Toronado, and Tiger Tiger at the top of the pile.
    3) Little Italy - Bottlecraft Little Italy and Mikkeller's Little Italy tasting room are just a couple blocks from each other. Ballast Point and Bolt Brewing are also down there but a hard pass for me.
    4) Downtown - Resident Brewing is inside the Local, good spot to grab both excellent house brews and a good guest list.
