I am drinking Sosus Double IPA from Toppling Goliath, ABV 8.00%. It is a really outstanding IPA, it's sweet (malts), but not too sweet, there's grapefruit, mango, a taste of blueberry, and moderate pine resin bitterness towards the end. I think it is juicy and dank. It reminds me of a Texas IPA called Yellow Rose.

Even with the ridiculous cash grab TG are trying with the KBBS, I still want to try everything they make...

After the NE-style DIPA hop bombs @CanConPhilly sent my way last week, this can't quite compare, but make no mistake: it's a very good beer.

I also like that they aren't shying away from the "NE IPA" moniker. They know what style they're shooting for, they embrace it, and they achieve it.

    Cheers!

I like the new album, but it hasn't really grabbed me yet to where I can put down all of the other new stuff I'm listening to. At some point I'll probably really dig into it. The opening track is definitely an ear worm.

With the style overhaul in the rear-view mirror, it turns out I have never had a beer that falls into the newly designated American Brut IPA category... Remedying that situation with this Brut IPA (6.1% abv) from Fair State Brewing Cooperative, The Brut Squad, my first beer from their brewery...

Brewed with Idaho 7 and Citra cryo hops, the beer has a floral and citrus aroma, with impressions of grasses and herbs, and maybe even a little dry funk... The flavors matched the aromas, but the citrus was muted and mild, and the herbal and grassy elements came forward more... There was a certain "barnyard" character that reminded me of some saisons and brett-beers I've had in the past... The bitterness and sweetness levels were both mild, and the carbonation added to a soft, smooth, highly drinkable feel... Light-bodied and drying on the finish, it presented a very graceful beer... Definitely recommended, and a good entry point for the style... 8/23/18 canning...

    Cheers...

Nice light golden color with white cap and lacing.

Lovely aroma of dry, crackery malt and floral, spicy hops.

Taste is hop forward with a firm bitterness that also develops a hop brightness as the beer warms up a bit. Malt flavor is dry, crackery and bready, yet malt plays a secondary role here supporting the hops. Not as malty as traditional Pils but I'm getting the impression that old style is not the goal here. Call it an updated take on the Pils style. Not a diminished one, or for that matter a better one, just different in it's own way and it's good.

Had a scary moment last Sunday before boarding the ship. There was a sign reading 'Any alcoholic drinks found in your luggage can be confiscated'. Yikes! All worked out OK in the end.

As explained in the commercial description, this beer is a take on horchata ("or xata") de arroz, a rice milk beverage featuring cinnamon and vanilla, popular in Mexico...

I've passed on this before, when it was in those big 750 mL (?) bottles, but figured I'd give it a go now in the tallboy cans...

It produced an audible fizzing on the pour, quickly resulting a flat-looking, headless beer... I suppose it delivers on the concept, as this is a creamy, milky-feeling beer - very soft and smooth, with obvious elements of cinnamon and vanilla... Body is relatively flat, carbonation-wise, but rounded-feeling otherwise... Some mild fruit impressions underscore the rice, lactose, vanilla, and cinnamon...

I'm gonna say I'm not a big blonde ale guy to begin with, and this expression of sweet rice milk is off-the-mark for me - I knew what I was in for, so I can't be too harsh, but this is probably a love-it-or-leave-it item, and maybe not even representative of a true blonde ale...

I offered up the back-end of my can to the great feathered serpent...
