Perhaps a secret $10,000 charity ticket allows a person to fuel up on 40oz of KBBS and then run in dressed as a dinosaur (or dinosaur ghost, if around Halloween) with a license to maul amateur paleontologists.

This is a great idea and if I worked for the Field museum you would have a job offer in your mailbox.

This thread is turning into something like The Running Man or The Hunger Games. I like it.

I think a lot of us beer nerds have allowed breweries leeway with price per beer (whether it be a bomber or 12oz), but this seems have genuinely reached the end of the stick. I have yet to see someone who is excited about this and most of the reaction has been sour or telling TG to GTFO.

While I get some of this impression as well, these tickets will be nearly impossible to get still, so I'm a bit less hopeful this is the end of the stick.

Also, they essentially kept the price of KBBS the same as they did last release, I believe. IIRC, it was $200 for 1 KBBS and 2 Assassin, with the assumption that the Assassin bottles were $50 each.

And yet I still get criticized constantly for complaining about breweries significantly increasing prices :grinning:

I think this is a way more brazen attempt at a money grab / hype building. MD was 44oz total with a glass, nice little box, and a pour for $100. To say aging it in bourbon barrels suddenly makes the price 4x seems dubious at best to me.

They released the same beer in 2014 and charged $25 for it.

    It's an obvious money grab.

I'm a believer that most barrel-aged beers are underpriced. For the amount of ingredients, barrel sourcing, time, and care that go into them they are an incredible value 99% of the time. That said.....$100 for a 12oz bottle is pretty ridiculous to me. I can't see a way that $100 is an acceptable price for this beer.

What's interesting is that you can get bottles of MD for $40 at the KBBS release.

What's even more interesting is they charge you $100 for a 12oz bottle of KBBS, still charge you $6 for the ticket, and then don't even offer anything else with it. Like... a free glass maybe? Or a couple of pour tickets? I mean, come on. If you're going to blatantly do something like this, at least hand someone a little free swag in the meantime. Or discount a bottle of MD as a bonus or something.

The High End just needs to buy a bunch of craft breweries under the radar, jack up all the prices to absurdity and the craft backlash will have everyone fleeing back to macros in protest.

Completely agree. $100 buys you a bottle of very nice actual bourbon.

You can get an amazingly good bourbon for $100. Any bottle in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is $99, and all are amazing bourbon. You can get a very good(like you mentioned with Four Roses) bottle for $40-50

    Same for Scotch.

One thing I just thought about is, how much are they actually going to make off of this? Let's say it's 1000 bottles at $100 = $100k. That's a decent chunk of change for a small(ish) brewery. I assume that the profit margins on this are higher compared to their other flagship beers but is it worth it for TG to possibly alienate their regular base of customers who might buy more total dollars worth of regular releases in a year versus this one time event? It seems like the tide on TG's morals/popularity has been shifting slowly toward the negative and this can only add to that negativity. I understand that it's a free market and they can charge whatever they want, and are going to sell out, but I know I'll be giving it a second thought next time I got to pick up beer and have the choice between TG and a different brewery.

I don't think anyone is going to be happy about paying $100 for the bottle but if they sell out tickets anyway it doesn't matter if the people buying them are happy about it or not.

Judging by Twitter there are more than enough people excited to pay $100 for this beer.
