Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

I bit the bullet and "preordered" a solemnoath BA 4 pack, hope its good. The only other solemnoath beat I have had is Lu and its just kinda alright.

I also bit the bullet...I've enjoyed their ba stouts this year, and one of my beer friends really enjoyed the base goldmun earlier this year

 

So, it sounds like BA Expo may not hit Chicagoland this week after all, which isn’t really surprising. One Binny’s hadn’t heard anything about getting it, while another said they’re expecting it but don’t know when.

 

Same thing I've heard, basically. I'll be in New Buffalo Saturday into Sunday for an overnighter with the fiance, so I'm thinking I'll slip away for a little bit, and try to find a bottle or two to bring back home.

 

Anyone lining up at Jewel/Binnys for CBS or has it completely fallen off the radar this year? I don't see a lot of talk/hype on it.

 

I won't line up at a Jewel for it. I have about 4 stores within a 5 minute drive of my house, and I'm working from home Friday. So I'll just stop in each one about 8am and see what they have.

 

There's so much good BA shit in Chicago this and next month (not to mention the next few) that something's gotta give, and for me, one of those things is CBS (plus I just got a little of my maple fix when MD was on tap).

 

Any word on Darkness? I saw Surly post on Twitter is was out today but Binnys hadn’t heard anything about it by me.

 

Was wondering the same. Binny's told me to check back for the Friday delivery to see if it came in, that nothing really came in today.

Yeah, it's a shame - either my taste buds have changed, there's too many good beers now, Founders has declined, or they simply make too much of KBS and CBS now - but this beer in 2011 was easily the best beer I had ever tasted, and it was just barely above KBS. Although, I did just have a 2017 over the weekend and it was pretty tasty. Here's hoping this year's batch is great.

A few days ago, I saw a bunch of CBS on a shelf at that grocery store on Western that still has cases of 2017 BCBS on the floor (they've dropped them to $9.99 or $10.99 now though). Granted, I haven't been paying attention to the CBS release so I assumed 2018 had already dropped, but these must have been brought out from last year. I just walked by as I wasn't interested and they actually have a decent meat counter there. Price tag was $30-something if I recall.

Gotta agree on Toasted Marshmallow, really liked Toasted Marshmallow and went back grabbed another one.

 

Agreed with the others, not lining up but will stop in on the way to work. Just want to pick up one and try it fresher than the 2017 I had last weekend. Which was still good but hoping for a touch more maple from a fresh one.

Last year's has the Mountie on the label. This year's is just the horse. Buyers beware.

 

Off the radar

 

I'm hoping to grab a bottle of CBS this year, maybe two. I'll have my kids tomorrow, so definitely won't be lining up, but hopefully can swing by 30-60 minutes after they go on sale to grab one after any potential line has died down. My gut tells me I should be fine doing that, since there seems to be not much hype around this year's release.
