A 2017 will be stronger on the maple than when it was fresh, exposed by the fading coffee. Many of us prefer it aged at least six months, though at least one guy liked it fresh.

I also thought it was great fresh also. It was great after 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. I don't think it got better with age. I don't think it got worse either. Just a little different.

There's BA beers that change with age, some I like better fresh than others, such as KBS. I like it hot and I think the coffee fades with age. Have to say I've had Bcbs of all ages, if it's better at any age over another it's been been so very subtle. If I had to guess I'd say the Origional format bottles I liked at 3-4 years, but that's minor. The new styles to me all taste the same which is the way it should be. I've had Dipas that seem to mellow in with age, not a lot of age but a few weeks can make a difference over super fresh. Looking forward to the CBS , for New Beer Sunday I think.

I thought the very same thing myself as this beer fresh showed no sign of maple syrup and very little Bourbon barrel nuances. Although after a revisit in July it seemed to have matured and is now boasting those characteristics. I also have another 2017 I was saving for the upcoming holidays l, but think I'll actually hold it for 1 more year.

How much are they asking for it in Alaska?

    $32.99
It's a lot, but that's the case for pretty much everything here.

That's not bad! Considering that a gallon of regular (non-organic) milk is around $10 there. And some people are paying $30 on the main land for CBS.

I was able to get a bottle of Anchorage Spanish Brandy BA Darkest Hour '17 for $25. Couldn't pass it up. Really looking forward to it. What do they charge for Midnight Sun and Anchorage barrel-aged beer up there?

The Darkest Hour line is awesome.

The new standard for Anchorage Brewing BA stuff is $25/375ml. Midnight Sun is usually ~$15/22oz.

$28 here. Bottle shop got 7 cases. I bought two bottles because of the price and format.

'17 and '18 both on the shelf at my local spot. As I mentioned earlier in this thread...I won't be buying any because screw Founders for giving us this bottle format and sending 4 packs elsewhere.

I believe this year international markets are getting the big bottles as well

Easy pass. I tried one last year and have one in the fridge. It was a great beer but the fact that they kept this in bombers while all other came in four packs is kinda shady. Has Founders explained the rational??

No they didn't but to play devils advocate they seemed to release more KBS than ever this year and many of the comments on the beer forums were things like "KBS isn't as good as it used to be". To me it seems this is a calculated business decision to show an appearance of scarcity in order to maintain the status of their most hyped beer (as well as a higher profit per ounce) but that isn't really something you broadcast in a press release. Considering the other beers on their roster it isn't a lack of maple barrels which I know Founders have claimed are a limited resource in the past.

I’m with you. I don’t have people around enough who appreciate a good stout, so the bombers don’t work for me. I’d go out right now for a 4 pack though

Well, then I guess they decided to screw everyone equally this year.
