Today has been one of those days where I literally have to mentally say, "There are reasons not to kill yourself". Still working on that list of reasons. Gonna slowly get drunk, starting with the good stuff, and making my way over to the (not as) good stuff. A bunch of Substance that was supposed to be for trading, but I'm stuck with it now, because people only give a shit about SWISHHHH. I will gladly drink all of this myself. Definitely calling out of work tomorrow. Here's to all things temporary

I was just reminded that it is International Stout Day! So, I had a 2018 KBS on the floor near the door at perfect drinking temp, voila! It's improved since the spring.
    Cheers!!!

Finally got to try the 2017 and 2018 vintages of Founders' CBS (the 2018 was released today). From my tasting notes:

    2018:

    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Beautiful dark black color with a little tan head and nice spotty lingering lacing. Would have given it more than 4/5 if only there were more sheets of lacing. Smells nice, deep roast coffee and chocolate with maybe a hint of maple - needed more aromas to score higher. But the taste and feel blew me away. Deep, rich dark roast coffee and dark chocolate, well-balanced malt backbone, caramel and vanilla notes. Then there’s the wood, bourbon and glorious maple - all present in the forefront but not overpowering the stout feel of the beer. Faint notes of molasses and brown sugar. Luscious, creamy and silky smooth, great mouthfeel - really some of the best I’ve ever felt. Just the right amount of mild carbonation. As the beer warmed it smoothed out a little and the flavors mixed so well. I can’t wait to see what happens when this beer ages for 6-12 months. I don’t understand how they did it, but the high ABV and alcohol flavor is so subtle that this beer goes down dangerously easy. Usually these high ABV imperials are sippers - but not this CBS. Absolutely fantastic beer that lives up to its hype and ridiculously high expectations.

    2017:
Tried this one on tap after the newer 2018 version above. Oh man does the extra year of aging make a difference. Abundant sheets of lingering lacing that stays forever, nice mild head. So impressive. Better aromas of maple, bourbon and wood. Similar flavors but more mellow, better mixture, with softer and rounder notes. Slightly creamier and stickier mouthfeel that just coats the palate. Less warming alcohol and even easier to drink despite high ABV. I’ve never had a beer like this one.

Finally got me a "big boy" beer in the house. Not going to lie, it's about 7 weeks old but has been kept cold since bought at Alchemist. BTW, Thursdays are a great morning to hit there, usually 4-6 cars in the parking lot at 11:00....

Delicious English brown ale as always. Flavors of big caramel, milk chocolate, cocoa, toffee, brown sugar, toasted oats, nuttiness, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coffee, smoke, dark fruit, and herbal/grassy hops. Similar/muted aromas. Very mild herbal/grassy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very creamy, silky, bready malt/oat mouthfeel that is fantastic. Slight sticky hops, chalky roast, and increasing dryness. Extremely smooth/drinkable. Very rich and complex for the 5.5%, with a nice sized body. Very well rounded brown ale malt complexity; with restrained fruity yeast and mild earthy hop balance.

Great Brut IPA. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, watermelon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with some cracker, white bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness with no hop astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, 5.5%. Feels like Chinook/El Dorado? Very vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; solid pale malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from crisp dryness. Spot on style.

This Michigan brewery is flying under the radar.. no hype. Delicious adjunct stout with balanced vanilla and cocoa nibs to go along with the sweeter base stout with a good barrel heat. Way too drinkable for 14.5%!

First one of the season and a little weird to be drinking this when it's 68 degrees outside. Nevertheless, it's pretty good. 'Have a matching Southern Tier glass but too lazy to dirty more glassware that I have to eventually wash. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:  !!
