I'm sure you could find good beer SOMEWHERE other than those places, but I understand your angst.

And herein lies the rub. No kid or dog wants to be at a brewery and it's not like the scenario is unavoidable. Nobody NEEDS to bring them, they choose to. They just don't give a fuck about anyone else, so long as they get to do what they want, when they want.

So let me get this straight after all the things I did for my kids every few months when we went to Asheville for 3 or 4 days and we went to Sierra Nevada or Wicked Weed for lunch (which they really enjoyed since they had great food) I did not give a fuck about my kids?? I cannot speak for anyone else here since I do not know them but having kids is the most enjoyable sacrifice I have ever made. If I stop by a brewery every three months and have 2 beers or a flight while we eat as a family and talk i do not agree that is showing I do not give a fuck. People here act like parents spend everyday at the bar with their kids. My kids are grown but I have friends with small kids and every once in a while they take them with them when we go to breweries no are no trouble they watch them. I think that one part of your statement could also apply to people who do not want kids or dogs at breweries as long as they get what they want they do not give a fuck about anyone else.

Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock, N.C. has the best idea of dogs in a public place. The walls are covered with many hundreds of nice photos of generations of customer's favorite dog(s). No people in the photos. It's an old hunting lodge and has great food and atmosphere.

    ^^^ Truth @Dragginballs76

I’m trying to be civil but some of you absolutist, judgmental fucks are really starting to piss me off. You honestly don’t know shit about me, my kids, or my parenting because you saw me with them at a brewery for an hour. Nor do you give a shit about them, you just like spouting self righteous opinions dressed up as fake concern for their wellbeing. Just fuck off already.

    Good job with that civility.

It is, after all, a controversial opinions thread.

Yes, but that's the only time I've seen you and them. And, if you're the ones I saw, I know everything about you I need to.

    True enough.

    Also true.

    Righty-ho. Have a nice day!

You two are missing the forest for the trees. You know, if everyone in the world had decent parenting skills and their kids were little angels, I'd be OK with kids being at breweries. Same goes for dogs. However, that's not the case. Add that to the fact that people are drinking and then putting their kids in the car to go home, or, possibly, to another brewery, and you can see the issue with that.

Oh . . . and in case you hadn't noticed already, I'm not going to fuck off that easily.

Yes, I resent being called a shitty parent by strangers on the internet. Imagine that.

I don't know quite what you mean by "if you're the ones I saw," but this is my problem with opinions like yours in a nutshell. You THINK you know enough, but all you've really done is make a mountain of unfounded assumptions in an attempt to feel morally superior. It would be like me seeing you at a brewery without your kids and thinking, "God what a shitty parent that guy must be, leaving his kids at home to go out drinking. What a selfish prick."

Glad we were able to find common ground.

Nobody sees someone sitting alone or without kids and thinks that, brah. This is the real world and it is FULL of irresponsible and selfish people. Are you one of them? I don't know, but I do know that a lot of them are out there. That's why we can't have nice things.

NOW I can agree you are not lumping all parents in together. I agree there are probably bad parents who take their kids to breweries and then drink and drive i do not do that my wife does not drink and she drives even if I have a sip. So if what you say is true and if any parents do not control their kids no kids should be allowed since a few people without kids are also bothersome and in many cases also drink and drive should we just ban everyone from breweries and close them???

I was on board with you until you lumped everyone in together.

Look man, the thing is, many people in this thread, including you, are not making any distinctions at all. Everything is just black and white. It's basically some version of, "Some kids I have seen at breweries are poorly behaved, some parents pay no attention and their kids look bored, therefore, all parents who bring their kids to breweries are pieces of shit who don't care about anything but themselves."

Surely you can see how ridiculous that is and why it would engender anger from people who don't appreciate strangers who don't know the first thing about them telling them that they are terrible parents. If what you were saying was nuanced and grounded in reality, I would have no problem with it.

This is veering into a separate discussion from whether you personally LIKE being around kids or dogs at breweries, which is obviously your subjective opinion and I don't really care about.

It should be obvious that I'm choosing a side of this issue from which to argue. In truth, I don't care if there are children or dogs at breweries because I don't go to breweries. Used to take my kids to beer places when they were little and they were just fine. Probably because I would have fucking decapitated them if they stepped out of line and they knew it. I am rather intolerant of children who are not behaving and even more so of their parents, so I tend to go to places that aren't terribly family friendly. Seen my share of kids at these places, though, and they all seem to be OK. Maybe they were your kids?

Agree completely, early on my first time at Burial in Asheville I had a tour scheduled we had done the SN tour my son was fascinated and we showed up fro the Burial tour. My first time tehre so when i saw it was super small no food at the time and was packed and loud. I talked to the guy it was a group tour we bowed out and left just not where I wanted them to be. I was the same way with my kids and I still am, cannot stand to see parents ignore and let their kids run all over the place and all of my friends are the same way.

Amazing. So after all that - all the heavy trolling - you actually admit to having taken your kids to beer places when they were little? Because why? You are the only capable parent in existence?

When did I say that I didn't? Simply that all kids probably shouldn't be allowed because of the people who can't parent properly. Is that too much of a stretch for you?

    Fresh meat:

If you walk into a brewery and ask the Beer Slinger "what's your favorite thing on right now?" , you are actually asking "what's the oldest, slowest moving, nobody else wants it, thing you have on tap?" .

Seriously, you're a grown-up, make your own Fucking decisions.

Which one of those would be the adult drinking establishment, which one the restaurant that serves beer (the terms I used in quote)? Which one would you choose if you were hoping to be enjoying beer around fewer children? Which would you bring young children to? All? None? Or????

    Cheers! Chris

Not for nuthing here, but, earlier this evening I was at a local brewery. 21+, but dog friendly.

One dude had an older doggo, not impressed or effected by the goings on.

Another couple had their 7ish month old lab mix, a different couple had their 4ish month golden retriever there.

Well puppers gonna pupper. Yes, there was a bit of barking, and, cuz it was slow, the hoominz let puppers off the leash. After about 5 minutes, the dogs were happily wrestling on one side, we humans were either enjoying it, or didn't care. It was slow, and nobody gave a fuck.

Now, obviously, a different time would have had a different viewpoint.

Feel free to sub kids for dogs in this scenario, and we're at the same place. Let's get past the kidz/dawg discussion and talk about true evil: Taster Trays!
