MY day with KBS

I took the day off work for this past Alpine Expo Hoppiness release. Drove down from LA at 8AM or so and then had to sit in traffic for nearly three and a half hours on the way back to LA. Exhausted...

 

Wake up at 4am local time. Drive 5 hours to Flossmoor Station. Enjoy a multitude of BA HiFi. It was my first bottle release. Loved it.

 

No, got it as I could and I will trade most for stuff I normally can't.

 

Not on any lists a few stores just put it out with limits, helps to go in the day before in person versus calling.

 

Loved the single kbs '11 that I had. Was fortunate to get 2 singles at a store about an hour ago. I guess theres a place near me that every year for 20 bucks you get a snifter of cbs AND a snifter of kbs, plus breakfast. Obviously, this is ticket only and limited...but WOW consider me there!

 

I'm taking off work for Beatification

 

Must be nice. There are stores around here that had "full" lists plus a wait list in January. Walking into a store yesterday asking about KBS would have only drawn derisive laughter.

Thankfully, I live near a pretty good shop who held off sending out an email (previous customers who signed up, no Twitter/FB) until after 5pm. Sitting at the stop light, check my email and *BAM*! 1 case for the store, 1 bottle/person@$5.99. Most every store in my area sold 1-2 bottles max. Heard one report of a store selling 2 4pks/person. That didn't last long.

I had just about given up on seeing any this year. I will savor that bottle later tonight watching the first round of the NCAA tourney (don't give me any crap about it, those first 4 games don't count as a "round")!

 

Absolutely ridiculous how hard KBS is to get this year. I've been on several "lists" for over 2 months and continue to get laughed at when I call to see if there is a bottle available. Hopefully one of the last 2 places that hasn't received theirs will help me out. Also- just a tad wrong that so many places disregard Founder's 3/15 release.
And to answer the question- I reckon driving from Atlanta to Tampa this weekend for Hunahpu is as extreme as I've gotten- but that stuff really is fantastic.

 

That sucks, I had split a case by 9:30 this morning then it got tougher to get. But managed with some fast driving and keeping my phone lit up.

 

With allocations like we see around here, it isn't even worth taking the day off. I could have spent $50 in gas driving all over the area and still been lucky to snag 6-8 bottles. There's one store in my area that tweeted KBS was in and tweeted "KBS is gone" not 20 minutes later (2 bottles/person). They burned through their Hopslam just as fast.

It's just not worth it.

 

We had some like that but I had a good idea what time most stores were getting there deliveries so I had an advantage. One store I basically got it off the delivery guys two wheeler. There are still a few stores that by location haven't got theirs yet and others for different reasons aren't selling yet.

 

Took off work and drove 45 min. to Weyerbacher to score a case of Insanity.

 

My best beer find of the day was not KBS at all. Apparently Kuhnhenn distributes more than I had thought:

And all were cheaper than at the brewery.
It was great considering I didn't have to take a day off and stand in line forever at the solstice party for these.

 

Took off work for 8 hours in line for half a case of KBS. I regret nothing. I'll take off for DLD if I get tickets.

 

I've taken work off a few times, Citra, Sourfest, Younger, and I'll probably take a day for Beatification.

But I'm taking two weeks off and flying to Denmark for Framboos in May. Does that count?

 

A couple years ago when I lived in Boston I got up at 1:30am to catch a ride up to Portsmouth for KtG day.

Two years running my cousin and I have gotten up at 4am to drive out for the Southampton RIS release.

In October I got up a 6am to head into NYC and hit the subway ISO CBS bottles.

Two weeks ago I spent hours waiting outside a couple bars for Pliny the Younger tappings.

This afternoon I spent an hour bouncing around the Lower East Side in NYC looking for bottles of KBS.

I had a blast doing every one of those things. I got to spend my time drinking great beer and/or hanging out and talking with other people who love craft beer as much as I do.

 

Eh, I don't see what's the big deal about scoring a 4 pack.
