    Good evening NBS
A 2 1/2 hour high school girls soccer banquet took me out of the action for a big part of the evening. At home with the kids in bed enjoying this beer through the generosity of @woodychandler...
The can is hard to read, but it's Brauhaus Brew Labs Schwandtoberfest.

    The review:
16oz canned August 2018 poured into a dimpled mug at fridge temp 5.7% ABV 27 IBU per can. The beer pours mostly bright brownish amber with bronze highlights. The head is light khaki in color and recedes to a rocky cap leaving some lacing behind. The aroma is mild with toasted bread notes being the most prominent. The taste is deeply toasted malt up front with mild earthy hop flavor and bitterness taking hold in the finish. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied, highly carbonated and dry in the finish. No off flavors or defects. Overall, very good. A highly drinkable beer with the malt bill of a Marzen and the body of a festbeer.

    Cheers all!

That's Bauhaus, not Brauhaus. From MN to PA to you is a strange journey, but very nice!

You are absolutely correct. Nice beer, but some of the most confusing can art and labeling I've ever witnessed. Cheers!

I agree! Their marketing and labeling is a little quirky, but can be tremendously funny! I'm just surprised when I see folks outside of MN drinking their beer - they're still pretty hyper-local, which probably has a lot to do with the aforementioned labeling, marketing, and general quirkiness.

This will be my first foray into NBS. I’ve been following the threads for years, but, for whatever reason, I have never participated. Part of that is likely a self-perceived inadequacy when it comes to reviewing beers. Part of it is having been a little busy the past 23 months rearing twins.

    Nevertheless, here we go.

I figured for my first NBS, I should choose a beer from the local brewery I have had the most beers from (Bellwoods - 155 different beers and counting). My choice is also a new beer from the brewery, released for the first time yesterday. It is also the first beer they have released brewed entirely using their foeder. I had a glass from the tap and bought a few bottles for myself and others to see how the beer changes over time. One of the assistant brewers said the team was excited to see how the Brett develops as the dry hopping fades. I am too, but really enjoyed it as it is now.

Bellwoods Foeder Fermented Grisette. 4% ABV

On tap at the brewery in a small tulip.

Look: light golden straw with a small head that dissipates fairly quickly. Opaque. Light lacing as the beer is consumed.

Aromas: subtle, spicy oak with light grassy and herbal notes. Very appealing.

Taste: pleasantly dry. Gentle woodiness. The Brett is barely perceptible. Everything is delicate and well integrated.

Mouthfeel: Dry. Thin but not watery.

Overall: Grisette is not a style of which I have had too much experience. What I have had, I have enjoyed. I particularly enjoyed the subdued Brett in this one. I have a feeling I will enjoy this fresh much more than with time and plan to only save one or two for any length of time.

This was an easy drinker with a pleasant light spicy oakiness that I really enjoyed. 4.36

Cheers, and thanks from having me.

Happy CANclusion of/to New @jkblr Beer Box Sunday (Week 715)!

Wotta day! I clearly do not adjust well to the time differentials of Daylight Saving Time. I have felt sluggish all day & things were not helped by spotty (at best) bus service today. I got a good bit of walking in, but such was not really how I wanted to fill the day. I got in my annual Greek dinner, I dropped off a game of Sorry! at CKW2G, I looked in at one of our many bottle shops & I came home for a nap.

I picked up where I left off, with:

I CAN't drink them all at once so I decided to stop there.

Next Sunday is Veterans' Day, plus it is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended the fighting (for twenty years, anyway). As such, my buddy & fellow vet, Chef Monty will be coming in from Chester County to have lunch with me at Texas Roadhouse. followed by some barhopping. Monday evening, we will have supper at Golden Corral. The upshot is that I may not get many in next week, unless @lordofthewiens gives me an early start.

Welcome and nice review. I don’t participate in this thread as much as I’d like to for the same reason as you: I have two young kids. And while it’s easy enough to crack open a beer and drink it, it’s not always so easy to sit down and focus on the beer like I want to.

I’ve been here more frequently over the past month or so though, although usually very early in the day or toward the end of day. Hope to see you back.

    Hello Late Night NBS!!!
Well we keep getting a retreat from autumn, and a return to SoCal Blah. 80's and strong sun. I'm tired of this teasing. Bring on the cooler weather.
As for Casa Beerdogs, we're busy bees here. So much going on. And on top of all of the family stuff, report cards are due Friday. But, I'm out for 2 days this week. One for a Science inservice, and one for District business. So now sub plans are an added headache (as well as drain on my time and energy).
    Lucky for me, there's beer...

This beauty from @CanConPhilly Thanks Brother Matt!!!

Alien Church NEIPA from Tired Hands

NEIPA indeed. Hazy. Pours yellow, wet straw in hue. Huge frothy head rises3 fingers high. Recedes to a soapy, nearly 2 finger high cap. Moderate lacing.
Aroma varies in fruit. Citrus pushes through at first, then some peach and cantaloupe. Then a slightly spicy dankness comes in. Sativa meets basil maybe. Really complex. Really inviting.
Flavor follows loyally. But the most pronounced are a melange of the citrus upfront, followed by the slightly spiced piney weedy notes. Some grainy, malt comes through as well. Bitter lingering finish.
Mouthfeel is downright creamy, nearly frothy. Finishes a bit dry. This one really stays "alive" in the mouth.
    Overall, Damn!

Had a blast in Philly but glad to be back home. Decided to have one lighter one while I relax a bit and call it a night.

Pours a purplish red with a finger of pink head.
    Smells of tart berries.
Tastes follows, tart berry, somewhere between raspberry and blackberry. The tartness is offset a bit with vanilla. Very jammy tasting.
Light to medium body with good carbonation.
Overall a tasty fruited Berliner from an up and coming GA brewery.

    Canned 9/27/18.
L: Hazy golden yellow in color. Provides a frothy fingers width cap which settled quickly. Nice amounts of lacing left in the glass.
S: Citrus and grassy on the nose. Big hints of lemon and grapefruit with an herbally/grassy hop presence.
T: Lemony and grassy with biscuity malt presence. Finish has slight hints of sweet mango and pine. Taste drops off fast and really doesn't have much of an after taste.
F: Light in body and weight. Somewhat watery in feel. Appropriately balanced carbonation for the style.
O: Very enjoyable. Light and easy to drink. Something I would revisit.

A little late to the party here but I worked a big shift today. Trying a new beer sent in from a fabulous BA'er - @drunkenmess

Slurm Lord Double New England Style IPA, bottle dated 09/21/18. Sent from @drunkenmess. 12 oz bottle poured into Sierra Nevada Spiegl.

Pours a vibrant orange-amber with lots of turbidity and a tall creamy head of 3 fingers. Lace spiders around the glass as the head settles down at about 1 finger.

Tons of juicy orange and orange sherbet in the nose, with hints of white and ruby red grapefruits, slight lemon, and the faintest hint of dank cattiness.

Flavor opens with a heavy spicy grass note, with tons of earthy notes and dank pine. After the initial dirty/dank flavors are gone, the fruity (grapefruit rind, lemon rind, slight orange squirts) notes come in on the back end and settle but only stay temporarily before the earthiness creeps in again. The water content can be tasted and seems imbalanced or impure. There seems to be a major lack of sweetness to this beer for the style.

Feel is creamy and has lingering resins. Medium bodied with an emphasis on creamy; moderate carbonation, slight alcohol burn.

Overall a decent NE IPA but it comes across a bit harsh with the grass/pine/earth and is not quite fruity enough. It comes across as a very dirty drinking IPA. Not a bad beer, but could use some improvement.

    ----

I'm glad I got to try this beer. Short's will get it right eventually, I know they're kinda hit or miss but their hits are great stuff.

Cheers BA fam. I don’t post here enough and I apologize for that. Also don’t cross post because for me that cheapens our relationship. Having a bourbon soaked glass of a blended bowl Golden Grahams while two dogs trample through the house. Actually rated this one here. Baby steps.

The original Ernest 'Mooney' Warther museum is in Dover. I still remember Mooney carving me a pair of his wooden pliers when I was a little kid.

His grandson David now has a museum in Sugar Creek.

Thought your review was just fine. We've got a place not far from here that has started using a foedor, guess it's time to give them another visit. BTW, I've just put Bellwoods on my list of places to visit next time I get a chance to visit Toronto.
