Anyone try the new TIPA? If so, how was it?

Would love to see 375's of most of their stuff. I want to try every single bottle that gets put out and end up buying a lot but it's not sustainable for me to spend around 20 a pop every single time.

I did the smell bottle taste thing last time I was there and got to try Frequency Illusion, Fall, and TomsHands.

Besides beer I'm pretty deep into "natural wine" so I see what they were going with FI but I could buy an actual wine for that price and it'd taste closer to what they were trying to achieve (with less ingredients).

Toms Hands was incredible though. Of course it 35 bucks though so I passed.

I'm not saying that there isn't plenty of creative, nuanced outputs from TH (there is!), only that it seems more than a little hypocritical to also unashamedly engage in the "pandering excess" type stuff like adding Lucky Charms to beer.

Frequency Illusion and Rustic Pentagram don't factor into that equation at all.

Anyway, hooray for the return of Oblivex.

Not only price, but if I am alone, it can be a chore to finish a 750 of some of those beers.

Some of us go to bed early................You're making excuses for not posting the case count.

    Thought the exact same thing

It's one thing to never offer case counts period. But there's only one reason to all of a sudden withhold that info and that's to drive up a hype/demand.

We can call, we can stay up late to call, etc but we have to go through all these hoops just to do something that was offered and taken away in the first place

Rather than speculate further I've reached out via email to see if they have reasoning they could share or more specifically if they could add the remaining case counts back. Will keep everyone updated if I hear back.

“Thanks for reaching out! Going forward we'll be updating/removing the cans once they have sold out completely. We encourage everyone to give the restaurant a call for more precise and up to date information regarding case counts while we work on improving the system =)”

So if it is on the page, it’s available, if it’s not then it’s not. Hopefully that helps.

Also, I received a response in less than an hour - another reminder that reaching out directly can be more useful at times than speculating into the void.

... but that doesn't give any reasoning as to why they've discontinued the practice, does it? Does that tell us anything we didn't already know?

I don't see how. Jean doesn't regard that as his real creative outlet as a brewer, and thinks brewers who do are confusing crazy ingredients with creativity. Where is the hypocrisy?

I'm not making excuses, I don't know why they got rid of the case count. However as they weren't exactly keeping it updated up-to-the-minute, it's quite possible people have gotten burned going in thinking there were cans, only to discover there weren't. Slightly more of an inconvenience of having to make a phone call, wouldn't you say? So maybe consider other customers have been put out by the way things used to be, before complaining about the change.

Criticizing "excess as creativity;" creating, marketing, and selling a product that handily fits under the label "excess as creativity."

Whether he also does creative other things doesn't do anything to minimize this hypocrisy.

Again, I'm totally cool with proven breweries doing things like that as long as they don't lean on them too hard, but the hypocrisy is just funny.

What if it is speculating into the ONLY VOID.

This is what I thought at first too about that quote, but I think there’s another way to interpret that quote as well. To me the excess is people having to buy, line up,hoard, try every beer that comes along. And have to have said beer right away, order it, trade for it, etc. That’s kind of how I interpreted that quote but who knows really.

I read it (and still read it) as excess on the part of the brewer rather than the consumer given that it's mentioned in the same context as "creativity" in regards to the brewing process... but I totally get that small quote snippets can be misinterpreted or might not be exactly what he meant, you're right in that respect.

You aren't impressed by how creatively we snaked chairs of all sorts throughout an entire suburban town?

So wait a minute. You are saying that providing more information is worse than providing less information? How are others put out the old way? I was smart enough to process the case count left and at what time that count was posted and extrapolate that to the current time frame, especially if the page was updated a few times a night/day. I certainly would hope others are as smart and could do the same. But instead, now a phone call is required and that's better?

Thank you @Nadtla for reaching out. I'm at least encouraged by the comment "while we work on improving the system".

I have no idea how the old way of updating the cases counts were done - if it was all manually, I imagine that would be rather time consuming and worth exploring system improvements (which they've noted they are working on). Regardless, more information in the hands of a consumer is always better. I really have no idea what goes into making these business decisions but the idea it isn't an industry standard that breweries in the area and/or at similar scale don't have live case counts makes me think it isn't as easy as I would like as a potential beer buyer. In the meantime, if I have to look on the website or call in advance to make sure they have something I want in stock it doesn't strike me as anything more than a slight inconvenience.

In the meantime, if anyone has any comments on the recent batch of Oblivex or the new TIPA, that might be a more meaningful discussion at this point.
