Does anyone know if all the variants are going to distro, or will some be brewery only?

Nothing is brewery only. Even Prop gets distributed, albeit distributed just in Chicagoland. Did you mean which are getting national distro?

BCBCS is my all-time favorite beer, so I'm a bit bummed that it's "taking a year off," but I will definitely pick up some of the coffee barleywine. I'm also planning on picking up a case of the original as usual.

just talked to the owner of my local distributor

they're getting BCBS and the orange variant

asked if I wanted him to hold any aside and I was going to do the orange but the price is $20 : /

he said the BCBS is $11 if I recall correctly

and this is a place that is generally fair and in line w/ other retailers...usually priced better

anyone else getting prices like this for variants

Would it be wrong to think that the barrel is of minor signifance, within reason of course. There's really so very little there, it's an influence not drinking a dram.

20$ For the variants isn’t bad...... most are around 25$.

I am shocked with the amount I am getting this year. Last year I got 21 cases of BCBS this year I am getting 6, yes 6 cases. I am being told by my distributor that I am getting the most of any store they service. Does anyone know as to the reason for the decrease in supply this year? I'm guessing that they wanted to bring back the rarity of it all.

My local guy has the above for Black Friday, no word on the price or quantity. Last year the variants went really fast and the regular was around in piles and piles. Usually they raffle off a rare few bottles to lucky folks in line so a few goodies pop up also.

Had a couple sips of this at a party last weekend. My palate wasn't in a position to judge whether it was any good, but it definitely had flavor and even some body.

Also, thanks to those laying down some serious barreling info in this thread. Really interesting stuff - especially the notion that it might be the leftover bourbon, rather than the wood per se, that's doing all the work.

I had no problem getting cases last year, and was even offered some months later. We still have 2017's on the shelf actually. Asked last week about getting this years and was told nope, the small amount they got are allocated. Very strange.

    Nope.

But it explains the sharp drop in supplies. Want to be relavant then make competition for a fraction of last year. I'm good, if I see it I'll buy one but I'll be damned if I'll chase it.

Seems like they made a ton last year, piled it in metropolitan areas and stores that have stiff competition with other seasonal beers... then people complained it was a shelf turd and it lost it's sparkle. How about spreading it out so people outside of large cities can find some. Send some variants out of state. Then it will sell and still feel limited. Creating rarity to try and reclaim some feeling of superiority is just dumb. It's popular, spread it out and sell it.

Your right . It used to be reasonably available, now you stand in line for 1 botttle. I won’t do that.we used to get variants now not a one.

Seems more like a function of distribution reallocation. From what I'm seeing pa is getting significantly more than usual whereas in past years it was much more scant

They sent your beer here. Usually our distributor only gets 10-20 cases of regular, and no variants. This year, regular is going to be way up over prior distribution, plus for the first time we're getting variants; Vanilla, Midnight Orange, Bramble Rye, and Wheatwine. If have some on hold at my favorite store and will try to get additional. Still have plenty of regular left from last year so probably won't get much of that. I'd be willing to bet that it will still all be gone on Friday like usual.

Why would it all be gone if there's still last years still on the shelf? Unless your just talking variants.

BCBS is far better than 95% of what is out there, and personally is a favorite.

If there is less in some areas this year it is due to more variants AND they increased the amount they legged for draft vs bottled.

If you don't Chase it, it's not because it's not good enough, but because you don't want to chase. Which is fine. I'll always go after it.
