Thanks. I didn't see it 2 weeks ago, but perhaps next time.

Btw, if you like Saison Dupont, Whole Foods is running a sale for 4-packs at 12.99, which is a great deal over the normal 17.99 price.

    I stocked up.

The one issue with the Eiche bottles is that I would think they’re a little up there in age because I’m pretty sure the only time that’s bottled is around Christmas time.

On a side note, I just picked up a few of the Urbock bottles and they’re tasting freaking amazing. I still have 2 left and am definitely pondering getting more.

That may be a good sign that TW doesn't have the Eiche then, because the new stuff will be released soon.

And you must be getting the same bottles from that shipment that I was getting in August- good to see that they're available throughout the region. And, yeah, they are indeed tasting amazing!

My pub is planning on getting some of the Kräusen (or whatever the end up calling it), so I'll report back on how different this is/isn't from the version served in Bamberg. I just hope it's in the ballpark.

The canned helles is/was apparently brewed in Bamberg and shipped over to the US in a massive shipping tank. They package the beer in Connecticut. I still haven't tried it, but it wouldn't shock me if it was different considering the process behind it.

As far as the Schlenkerla bottles go, I find that they're much smokier than the draft versions in Bamberg. I don't dislike the bottles or anything, but there's something about them that concentrates that smoky flavor. I find it a little overwhelming. On tap it's one of many different flavors going on instead of being 75% of the flavor.

I say the smokier the better, but that’s, of course, just my preference.

    B. United mentioned after Helles-Maerzen, the next beer to be canned will be Fastenbier in February.

Quick follow-up - kegs are expected to be heading this way in early to mid December. If anyone is in the Denver area, the spot to be will be at the Bull & Bush.

That has been my experience as well. The canned (unfiltered) version was notably smokier.

    Cheers!

I really hope they decide to can the regular Märzen soon. It’s seems as they are trying to ease people into the taste of Rauchbier.

Speaking of that, are they still distributing Helles? I haven’t seen it down here since I moved.

The Helles is listed as being “available” by the B. United folks:

    “Aecht Schlenkerla Helles 24 x 16.0oz / 473.0mL 6 x 4 Pack Cans

    Brauerei Heller-Trum/ Aecht Schlenkerla”

    Cheers!

Maerzen in a can?! I know not everyone can visit bamberg, even once, but don’t assume that what you get in cans, bottles or kegs is anything like what we get here. Honestly the difference in bottles we get here locally and the draft is big. Enjoy it of course, but beer isn’t going to improve by being shipped across an ocean, no matter how fresh it is.

Some beers here are so fragile even a gentle 20km drive seems to make a big difference.

I don't think anyone is assuming that what we get imported to the US is the same as what you can get right at the source. But normally we just get bottles with no dates on them and you have to play the guessing game as to how long that beer has been sitting around for. When you compare that to getting beer that has been shipped here cold and freshly canned with package dates, I'll take the cans every time.

@Jason_in_Bamberg You are trying your best to convince us this beer won’t be good, but we are going to enjoy it anyway goddamnnit. Haha.

I love Austria and Germany, and I as well as many others dream of living out there eventually. I plan on visiting Bamberg someday, but for now a canned imported version of whatever they have out of Schlenkerla is the best most of us can get.

While I agree with your overall point, I haven't bought the cans after my initial four pack. Way too smoky compared to what I have had in bottle/draft here in the US.

That would be fine if it was the Urbock, but it's not.

Anyone seen these cans yet? I don’t wait in line for beer and don’t know how to track beer delivery trucks by GPS, but is there someone out there who can tell me when these cans are gonna hit central Mass?! I want to try this beer.

Yeah the cans were definitely smokier than any bottles or draft that I've had but I didn't find them to be too smoky. Still an excellent beer in my opinion, just different.
